It is now time for all Miami Hurricane Fans to turn the page.
Depending on who you ask, UM football fans have been wandering in no man's land for somewhere between 18 and 20 years. What is not at doubt is that collectively we have been wandering with no clear direction, lost in the wilderness and at times angry, clueless or frustrated and even hopeless.
A quick summary of this time period of time reads as follows.
Larry Coker inherited a sexy red Ferrari and managed to drive it really well and really fast for one year until he eventually crashed and burned it.
Former UM player Randy Shannon came in and was certain to save the day but in the end it turned out he couldn't save himself from himself.
Al "Pa" Golden brought his shiny new binder and all 12 pillars to Coral Gables only to see them get crushed into pieces in just a few short years.
Manny Diaz actually left, came back, and then clearly proved not to be The Man in Miami but just another coach on the long list of recent losers.
Miami has now turned the page and hired Mario Cristobal to solve this situation and return "The U" to it's rightful place among the college football elites. Can he? Could he? Will he? These questions will all be answered in due time.
I will remind Miami fans once again of the now well known, and at times worn out, Canespace motto: "It is our job to drink beer and cheer. It is the head coach's job to hire and fire."
Yes, contrary to popular opinion, fans don't win games. Coaching, recruiting, talent, schemes, game planning, play calling, committment, communication, motivation and execution do.
So Hurricane football fans my advice is to sit back, crack open a cold one and relax. You are off the clock until September when the games begin again. Then you can drink beer and cheeer for your team in orange and green from The U.
Mario however is now officially on the clock. First he has to fill out his coaching staff. Then they have to recruit like crazy until National Signing Day in February. Then he has to develop a culture in the lockeroom and a plan in the Hecht Athletic Center on how to get things done, recruit better players, win more games and eventually win another National Championship.
Oh, and a special personal note to Mario, our patience has been worn thin over the last 18-20 years so don't give us the old "five year plan" and standard rebuilding speech. Manny barely got three years and then he was toast. We hope, and respectfully request, that you too don't become toast.
It is a new year and Hurricane fans have another new head coach.
So as I see it from where I sit, here' is the deal.
We agree to do our part and drink beer and cheer.
You do your part by hiring and firing coaches as needed.
Then lead Miami to more wins and eventually a National Championship.
Our agreeement is that until then, we will all agree to turn the page.
Yo! Is this thing on?
Go ‘canes!

Next month is going to be crucial. We can have either a traditional transition class, or we can load up on blue chippers from HS and the portal. Manny had a great class last year - we need to build successive classes.
Thank goodness we are not Oklahoma. What they are experiencing is what I feared was the worst case scenario if Manny left. They’re down to one wide receiver and their starting QB just entered the portal.
Posted by: TonyCane | January 04, 2022 at 10:23 PM
Yeah, it's a shame for Oakie. They had 3 or 4 five star WR's about a month ago and Now how the tide has changed. They opened up a can of worms with the T.P. they are going to have to do some major adjusting or this thing is going to get out of hand.
It ain't changing the landscape at the top, so don't expect parity any time soon
The rich keep getting richer and what they don't get from the high schoolers, they will poach the cream from the portal. I believe Jumbo has A&M at the top with I believe 6 five star recruits and maybe 7 if he gets Shemar. So now A&M is poised to join Bama, Georgia and OSU. So. Cal may be able to join them in a year or 2. Mario has his work cut out. Won't be that easy keeping these kids from running across the border to SEC land. Where they play football. This conference is poison for us. The only good thing about it is if u can convince the kids that it's an easier road to get to the final 4 playing in the ACC coastal and Navigating Clemson than playing in the SEC and having to navigate, Bama or Georgia and in some Years, Florida, Auburn, A&M or LSU. U truly have to recruit at the highest level to get thru that gauntlet.

Thank goodness we are on a new direction with a new proven coach, a proven quarterback and a decent recruiting class, maybe even better than decent if
our new Coach pulls a few shockers in recruiting.

Bryan McClendon named Co- offensive coordinator and WR's coach.
I guess that means Briles ain't coming.
I guess CO means 2 minds are better than one?
Hope the other twin is a QB guru.

So far I’m very unimpressed with Mario’s timing and lack of urgency with a coaching staff! Just my opinion.
If he has this huge budget and knew who he wanted, go effing get them.

Miami losing, so far, to Syracuse, 31 - 15 in Basketball. Something has to give.
Cold and snow here in Michigan. Hope to get out of here by Feb. 1st to warm sunny Florida. This cold weather goes right through you, as you get older. Recovering from my fall last week. Walking slowly, scabbed up, etc. My mom always warned me about getting old. She was so RIGHT. Take care everyone.

Dam Ohio, ain't had nobody really to talk recruiting on a consistent basis but Aero. U got to quit holding out.
I feel the same way about Mario and his staff or lack there of, he still lacks both Coord., Db, LB, RB Sp. Teams TE.
Got a feeling we are getting at least Coleman, the rest we are at least being considered. We need Stewart but got another Month to wait on him.
Posted by: HerbieIbis | January 05, 2022 at 10:20 PM
Silvera to Da portal. Thanked Todd Stroud but didn't mention Simpson. Ain't really lived up to his potential but to me it's a mistake on his part. Probably thinks he's SEC material or I can see him going to JSU or some other HBC. This will become the fad in the coming years.
Don't know how many ships we got available but we are now down to 2 DT's in the 300 lb range, Taylor and Miller and don't know if Taylor is 300.

UGH!!! The portal... Changing the face of college football as we've known it... and IMHO NOT for the better.
I agree, Nesta hasn't quite lived up to his potential, but I was really looking forward to seeing him mature one more year and play for Mario.
Bummer.

Major tale of two halves turnaround at half last night to keep the biggest secret in men's basketball this year still flying under the radar. If they find a way to win this next one against the only currently ranked team on the schedule, Larranaga will have lined himself up for a dark horse run at ACC coach of the year, while establishing a front to make a run at national honors for it as well.
The great thing about the current core of the roster is they've been kicked in the face so many times the last few seasons that when they do get down big and taste their own blood trickling from the strikes, they don't panic because they're used to it and just keep grinding, meanwhile whoever is up on them naturally is relaxing thinking everything is fine when in reality the stage is being set for a comeback run against them because UM's players are going to get every drop of juice squeezed out of them from the staff. Zone was causing a lot of problems against too passive an attack that was getting turned over in the paint instead of exposing the interior from the foul line down to the block, three point defense almost sank them but Syracuse's free throw line struggles eventually cost them the upset bid luckily, better overall team defense, especially of the three point line, improving the defensive rebound secured versus offensive rebounds surrendered ratio, and a reduction in turnovers will decide if they can move onto the bubble and into the championship postseason the rest of the way. Moore has been on a tear and is constantly winning his man to man assignments overall during the course of games, that's where the streak really got started and will continue at least until that falters and is no longer the case more often than not it looks like since Syracuse had no answer even with their size advantage to Miami going extremely small in their lineup.

Great article straight to the point full of facts...though I would amend to the list of what wins....the last one...execution...you know me....of FUNDAMENTALS.....
Execution of Fundamentals of the game...block tackle catch throw kick stance secure run hustle learn listen study attitude outlook THINK... is why we have been so bad......
we have not had coaches since 2003 that start with this concept...so many players at all schools come in with flawed or improper fundamentals...why does Saban win...sure he gets the best talent but knows from their first plays in sandlot so many of them have been taught wrong...then they get to HS and the family friends papers scouts ranking outfits etc make them football Gods....they know and do it all. I have never seen a guy thats perfect...none are. Saban breaks them down in all the categories I listed...its hard and time consuming...but 7 NCs tell it all...its what wins!!!!!
T Sully...drinking the eating...and dont forget those cigars...if we win more we can drink more, eat more happily....and toast victory with a nice stogie!!!!
Great article 86...look forward to progress!!!!

The UM "We-Are-Family" mantra is history. Unfortunately, this is the "modern" era. Nowadays, players simply come and go . . . as if a college football program is just another McDonald's.
The freakin' transfer portal, the phony "NIL" payments, and all the early exits to the NFL, are destroying college football - in my view. Some say that these reforms represent progress. I say that they are making college football progressively worse.

IMO, 4-5* WR Kevin Coleman and 4* DE Cyrus Moss are both choosing Miami on Saturday.
Much more confidence on Coleman, simply based on the fact that his main recruiter at FSU is now at Oregon and he LOVES our new WR coach BMac. Coleman is Jeff Thomas, but a tad slower and less mental issues.
Moss is an absolute freak and he loves Mario.
Why the confidence in recruiting you ask, SOUP? Mario and the staff he's assembling. U can say what U want about how Mario will do with on field, in-game calls, etc, but what U can't question, is his recruiting. He's ELITE at it.
Also, the staff he's assembling... All legit/elite recruiters also. BMac is a top recruiter, Mirabal is a top recruiter, our new strength coach is maniac and kids LOVE him and want to work hard for him.
Keeping TRob? Great, he's an elite recruiter. Keeping coach Field? Great, he's an elite recruiter.

Oh, and Manny Diaz made me stop posting and stopped following recruiting all together. He was a shit show everywhere and so was his staff (at least in recruiting)
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | January 06, 2022 at 10:15 AM
Last week of January could be huge:
The big name to know is Miami Monsignor Pace five-star defensive lineman Shemar Stewart, who has a final three of Texas A&M, Georgia, and UM. The Aggies and Hurricanes are thought to be battling it out for the Under Armour All-American's commitment.
Two more South Florida natives expected to be in attendance are Fort Lauderdale Cardinal Gibbons defensive line duo of Ahmad Moten (6’3, 290) and Iowa State commit and Top247 EDGE R Mason Thomas. The two helped the Cheifs win their second straight state title last month.
Posted by: AeroCane | January 06, 2022 at 12:39 PM
In addition, we've got pretty decent chances with more ELITE kids for February signing day. I haven't taken a NSD off of work for a few years now, but I might for this one.
Notables:
5* OL Joshua Conerly (#23 nationally overall, #3 OT)
5* DT Shemar Stewart (#7 nat'l overall, #2 DL)
4* OL Dave Iuli (#191 nat'l overall, #13 OL)
4* RB Trevonte Citizen (#113 nat'l overall, #9 RB)

And 1 or 2 more key guys (maybe 4 star CB Florence 6’1.5, 180 and Conerly but both might be tough pulls)

From a poster on CIS about Mario interview:
There are two parts that are for the diehards:
- him talking staff releasing next few days and coming week
- him confirming the internal support will rival any program including Bama
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | January 06, 2022 at 04:33 PM
Citizen will be the RB to watch for us. I know Moss down to us & SC. Probably would be at Oregon had Mario stayed.
If da stars line up and we get Moss & Stewart to go with Kelly, what a haul at DE. Need some beef in the middle. Moten would fill that bill and hope that he is better than his brother, who was average at best.
Mario's hires are calculated and tied to some of these cruits.
Would love to see him yank Briles from Arky but have doubts he's looking that way.
The days as we have known them the last 18 or so years or the curse of McGahee are coming to an end. Time to get some dam retribution. As much as the sports world has been talking about us lately, I think they know hell is coming.
That effing fence that we used to talk about but has been stampeded over by dem poachers is going to finally be put back up and in concrete this time.
Yeah, Mario still has to get everything aligned and it might take a year or 2 but hells coming.

Hey! DTC here too! Feels absolutely awesome to see the positivity around here! Hey, it’s hard to win NC’s (unless you’re Bama). Even mighty Clemson found the lowly ACC too much to conquer without an all-world QB. But the CANES finally have a legit leader. Once the 5’s (stars) take us seriously and start coming, we’ll see 4’s following and 3’s begging. I’m as demanding as anyone but do understand “baby steps”. After the last 15 years, I’ll be beyond happy to be playing meaningful games in Nov and a real bowl game! We’ve been in 5-7 to 7-5 purgatory for what feels like eternity
