It is now time for all Miami Hurricane Fans to turn the page.
Depending on who you ask, UM football fans have been wandering in no man's land for somewhere between 18 and 20 years. What is not at doubt is that collectively we have been wandering with no clear direction, lost in the wilderness and at times angry, clueless or frustrated and even hopeless.
A quick summary of this time period of time reads as follows.
Larry Coker inherited a sexy red Ferrari and managed to drive it really well and really fast for one year until he eventually crashed and burned it.
Former UM player Randy Shannon came in and was certain to save the day but in the end it turned out he couldn't save himself from himself.
Al "Pa" Golden brought his shiny new binder and all 12 pillars to Coral Gables only to see them get crushed into pieces in just a few short years.
Manny Diaz actually left, came back, and then clearly proved not to be The Man in Miami but just another coach on the long list of recent losers.
Miami has now turned the page and hired Mario Cristobal to solve this situation and return "The U" to it's rightful place among the college football elites. Can he? Could he? Will he? These questions will all be answered in due time.
I will remind Miami fans once again of the now well known, and at times worn out, Canespace motto: "It is our job to drink beer and cheer. It is the head coach's job to hire and fire."
Yes, contrary to popular opinion, fans don't win games. Coaching, recruiting, talent, schemes, game planning, play calling, committment, communication, motivation and execution do.
So Hurricane football fans my advice is to sit back, crack open a cold one and relax. You are off the clock until September when the games begin again. Then you can drink beer and cheeer for your team in orange and green from The U.
Mario however is now officially on the clock. First he has to fill out his coaching staff. Then they have to recruit like crazy until National Signing Day in February. Then he has to develop a culture in the lockeroom and a plan in the Hecht Athletic Center on how to get things done, recruit better players, win more games and eventually win another National Championship.
Oh, and a special personal note to Mario, our patience has been worn thin over the last 18-20 years so don't give us the old "five year plan" and standard rebuilding speech. Manny barely got three years and then he was toast. We hope, and respectfully request, that you too don't become toast.
It is a new year and Hurricane fans have another new head coach.
So as I see it from where I sit, here' is the deal.
We agree to do our part and drink beer and cheer.
You do your part by hiring and firing coaches as needed.
Then lead Miami to more wins and eventually a National Championship.
Our agreeement is that until then, we will all agree to turn the page.
Harry and Toledo, thanks! Glad to see all of U!

DL coach Joe Salave'a confirmed by Miami! Great coach and recruiter.
Also, gimme all the Polynesians on the line []_[]

Navaughn gone. I liked him coming in, but have to agree with 86…he never worked hard. New regime cleaning house.

Toledo
Where’d you see that? I can’t find it anywhere. Not that it matters if he stays or goes but I’m curious

Per inside the U
“Mario Cristobal will bring his trusted defensive line coach Joe Salave'a from Oregon to Miami.
Salave’a coached with Cristobal at Oregon since 2017. When Cristobal was named head coach, Salave’a stayed with the program and added co-defensive coordinator and run-game coordinator to his title.”

If Mario pulls Coleman and Moss tomorrow like we think, he will have gotten 4 Top 100 kids that would NOT have come to Miami with manny and the previous staff. It’s also just the 2nd time it would be done (4 top 100’s in one cycle) in a decade. And Mario will have done it in 3 weeks. Without a DC or OC LOL
Examples:
- 2021: Three (DT Leonard Taylor, DB James Williams, and QB Jake Garcia)
- 2020: Two (DB Avantae Williams and DE Chantz Williams)
- 2019: One (WR Jeremiah Payton)
- 2018: Six (RB Lorenzo Lingard, TE Brevin Jordan, DT Nesta Jade Silvera, WR Mark Pope, QB Jarren Williams, and CB Al Blades Jr.)
- 2017: Three (WR Jeff Thomas, OL Navaughn Donaldson, and DL D.J. Johnson)
- 2016: One (WR Sam Bruce)
- 2015: One (RB Mark Walton)

Texas A&M is paying up to $30,000,000 for its 2022 recruiting class using the NIL.

When I was in college the current coach was working his grad assistant role for Butch Davis, and one evening on the first floor of Mahoney dormitory someone stopped him to chat and said to Cristobal while he was running some GA errand, probably counting curfew numbers I'd guess, he'd have Butch's job eventually they thought, Mario I remember chuckled and humbly said the right thing back, that in a few decades maybe he'd be ready for a football coaching job of this magnitude and the current coach was much better suited for what the program needed now than he'd be.
Turns out my clock on the wall just went off and it's now literally decades later, and look who's got the job, maybe Butch will loan him a Super Bowl ring too for home visits to flash at the prospects....

Well, Jumbo has always been a good recruiter and this deal just made him lethal.
Still got to play the games but it makes it a whole lot easier when you got a Brinks truck sitting in your parking lot handing out wads of cash to the recruits u want.
NCAA will eventually have to come up with solutions to NIL and the portal before these to things get way out of hand. U already have the same 3 or 4 teams hauling in a vast majority of the 5 star players and if they need them will Cherry pick the portal for the best available.

I was in Mahoney Hall, in 1966, as a freshman. NO AC the whole year. Not till I moved next door to 735 East. All that money and no AC.
Looking forward to the Duke BB game tonight. On ESPN I think!!

SEC has always been the big spender, but now there are ways for the big money schools to do it without breaking the rules. Only a few schools outside of the SEC are trying to keep up, like OSU and Clemson,or catch up, now USC and UM. Like you said, Herb, at some point there will have to be more NIL rules or this wild west will only get wilder with very few teams ever having a chance over the top few, without the top few ever changing.

Such HUGE disappointments. Payton was my Rookie LOF the year he came in as a Freshman. Jinxed him?

Miami Hurricanes wide receiver Jeremiah Payton announced his entry into the transfer portal on Friday. Payton was a star in practice for Miami who developed beyond that. A 2019 signee, Payton was the 54th ranked player nationally, 10th best WR and nine in Florida. Payton announced his departure from Miami in August.
The initial announcement was that Payton was taking a leave of absence for personal reasons. Payton played in 11 games in his two seasons with the Miami Hurricanes recording six receptions for 58 yards and one carry for seven. Payton initially signed with Miami under former WRs coach Ron Dugans.
Dugans was replaced by Taylor Stubblefield for the 2019 season. Stubblefield left Miami after one season for Penn State. Rob Likens replaced him for the 2020 season when Manny Diaz revamped the offensive coaching staff. Payton chose Miami over several other high-profile schools including Alabama, Clemson, Florida and Georgia.
When Payton initially left in August, the potential for him to return was left open. Now Payton will be seeking to transfer to another program. Payton was the top signee for Miami in 2019. The Hurricanes top defensive signee in the Class of 2019, cornerback Christian Williams also transferred and is now at South Florida.

Coleman to Jackson State.
Neon Deion strikes again.😡

LMAO @ Deion at Jackson State
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | January 08, 2022 at 04:06 PM
JSU = $$$$$$$$$
Posted by: 86Cane | January 08, 2022 at 04:12 PM
I look at Coleman going to Jackson State as FSU losing their top 2 commits to Deion. Damn! 😂
I would’ve liked him, but we’re ok at WR. Moss was a bigger pickup for our needs.

Posted by: toledocane | January 08, 2022 at 04:26 PM
I still expect Frank Ladson Jr. is likely to take a WR slot out of the portal, too.
Posted by: JCane | January 08, 2022 at 04:28 PM
Well, all the guru's who have the inside info, whiffed on Coleman, just like I did.
First let me say, I can see a kid going to a JSU, if u could be one and done and it's straight to the draft but, But u tell me what good it will do a kid like Coleman going against the talent he will face playing at that level? Money aside, he could of made Money here. The cuteness will wear off and then where will he be. Hopefully he hasn't signed yet and this joke of a pick will be just that, A Joke!
Good that we got Moss, now got to get the goons out collecting money to lure Stewart.

One year to collect big $$$ at JSU and then transfer portal to collect another big payday at another school. This is going to be ridiculous.
And once kids figure out where to get the most $$$ (see TAMU) they will just transfer straight up for the $$$.
Why worry about playing against good competition with good talent when by the time you are done in college you have a couple of million. The NFL will be rendered useless and half the kids who cash out in college will not even care about the Not For Long league.
If I was a 21 year old college kid with $3 million after college by transferring 3 times to big schools would I really want to get up at 5 AM to work out every day and work hard to make the NFL to get concussed, blow out a knee or worse?
Hell to the NO!
I'd take my $3,000,000 buy 4 houses @$500,000 each (or less) as real estate investments with $2 million put the other $1 million in diversified investment accounts and let it grow into $10,000,000 or more over 50 years.
Then retire like a king and never work a day in your life unless you want to.

Where we stand as of 1/8/22:
BLUE CHIP PLAYERS
2022: 47 (out of 80 players)
2021: 50 (out of 91 players)
2020: 40 (out of 79 players)
2019: 36 (out of 77 players)
2018: 38 (out of 80 players)
2017: 29 (out of 77 players)
2016: 27 (out of 76 players)
2015: 28 (out of 83 players)
2014: 23 (out of 72 players)
2013: 23 (out of 74 players)
CURRENT ROSTER DEPTH:
Quarterbacks 4
Wide Receiver 9
Running Back 5
Tight End 6
Offensive Line 14
Defensive Tackle5
Defensive End 6
Linebacker 10
Defensive Backs 18
Special Teams 3
The current signing class (while quite small) features 9 four star players out of the 11 commitments. That is the most lopsided class in favor of blue chips since 2005, which featured 12 out of 16 players as blue chippers.

Somehow, we got to get to get in the upper 50's.
Bama, OSU and Georgia are all in the the mid to upper sixties.
Posted by: HerbieIbis | January 08, 2022 at 05:54 PM
NO ONE had Coleman to JSU. ZERO crystal balls on 247, never mentioned once anywhere.
Deion doing that $bag work in the shadows
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | January 08, 2022 at 06:41 PM
Ohio
Yep but moss was way more important
We are loaded at WR and next year there are plenty of top 100 WR for us to get our fair share.
Plus I think IF Mario wants Larsen as a transfer, he can get him
Posted by: AeroCane | January 08, 2022 at 07:57 PM
I guess HBC's can contact in the no contact period. Never any mention of JSU, and the same with Hunter.

This crap will only get worse (NIL) before it gets better.
Posted by: HerbieIbis | January 08, 2022 at 08:48 PM

Posted by: Alphonso Jackson | January 08, 2022 at 08:55 PM
Miami sitting at #36 in 247 composite rankings. With 10 commits they have the fewest of anyone in top 50 with an average ranking of 92.65 that ranks 5th behind aTm, Bama, UGA, and Ohio State. He’s not done either.

We'll see how they respond with the target firmly painted on their backs the rest of the way now, secrets out and no more sneaking up on other teams unsuspecting.
Only 499 wins to go to catch Kryzewski.
