The University of Miami football team is favored to claim the 2022 ACC Coastal Division title, as announced Tuesday by the league office.
The preseason poll is based off votes from 164 media members, including those credentialed for last week’s ACC Kickoff in Charlotte, N.C.
Of the 164 voters, 98 put the Hurricanes atop their ACC Coastal ballot. Miami finished with 1,036 points in the voting. Pittsburgh, the reigning ACC champion, placed second in the Coastal with 38 first-place nods and 911 total points.
North Carolina (18), Virginia (six), Virginia Tech (three) and Georgia Tech (one) all garnered Coastal first-place votes, as well.
Miami, picked to win the Coastal for the first time since 2018 and sixth time since joining the league, also received eight votes to win the league, third-most of any school. Only Clemson (103) and NC State (38) earned more such votes.
In the final year of a divisional format in the ACC, the Coastal and Atlantic champions will meet Dec. 3 at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte in the ACC Championship Game.

I will be in Mansfield Texas, not far from Kyle field in College Station When the Canes play Texas A & M. Just saying Tom, Roach just saying. I have a new ford F150 and it knows where Love field is. Seats at least. Pick up at airport is free. Just saying.
Tom. I had a really good year just like the Canes are going to finely Have.

I've been fooled twice too. Don't blame you. I was just daydreaming. It the only game near me, 1,680 miles to Mansfield Texas, 3,000 to Fort Lauderdale.
Guess I'll watch on TV. Unless.

This blob is going to cut down a lot of search time in four months, so glad it's up and open for comments;

It's a good season next year if that image has UM's logo inside the state lines, relatively you'd have to say.

Is anyone going to the opener lol
Posted by: UMike | August 09, 2022 at 07:29 AM
The Only Game I ask scheduled-to make is OurGame at GT on Saturday November 12th! If I am lucky I can make it to our Season Finale and Home Finale which should also decide ACC Coastal Crown as our Miami Hurricanes host Pitt on Saturday November 26th a day before my 46th Birthday! Anyways Go Canes!
Posted by: Terrance Sullivan | August 09, 2022 at 02:48 PM
I'm not even sure I'm wagering on the opener, much less going to the glorified scrimmage. But, since the usual secondary market ticket prices are half to a quarter cheaper against the warm up team even for openers at home, yeah, people apparently are going.
Posted by: orange 'n green in the vein | August 09, 2022 at 10:18 PM
I'm mainly going because it's a long weekend, so I am taking advantage. My gf has never seen a game in Miami. I was going to come for the FSU game, but I will be in Atlanta the week after for GT, so hard to make those back to back trips. So the glorified scrimmage it is lol
Posted by: UMike | August 10, 2022 at 07:28 AM
Nothing wrong with that, you'll have a decent chance to be the modern era version of one of the 48K or so fans who were in the stands against McNeese State to open the 2000 season on the last day of August, so you can say "I was there when the corner got rounded." Claiming it sooner rather than later would be great . . .
Entered that season ranked top 5 in the nation, so UM has to climb a little farther to match that year's results but the reigning ACC champ is Pitt, which UM beat straight up even with the Heisman finalist and Biletnikof award winning wide out he was targeting all year, so it's not out of the question too.

Cedric Baxter, 4 star RB from Orlando, plans to announce 7pm today. Canes have a shot, but likely to the Longhorns.
Posted by: JCane | August 10, 2022 at 12:41 PM
Canes do NOT have a shot, unfortunately
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | August 10, 2022 at 01:01 PM
Let him go. We still have a little stigma with the locals.
Posted by: HerbieIbis | August 10, 2022 at 05:31 PM
Going to miss on Safety Bonsu too, unfortunately. OSU stealing him
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | August 11, 2022 at 09:50 AM
Every year it seems they're is a position or 2 we just struggle to fill, it looks like DB & DL may be that way for us this year. Allot of the So. FLO. kids still seem a little skeptical of Da U. and it's tough to pull kids far away from home, now Mario has done a pretty good job at that.
Going to take a little more time for them locals to get the picture, that and at least 9 wins and not getting blown out if and when we lose.
The class looks pretty good but coming up short at those two aforementioned positions would stink.

Long and lanky, awkward running style, bound for ankle and knee injuries.

I don't think Mallory is our best TE, so if he has to miss some time I think we will be fine.

“There’s an unbreakable bond within the UM community. This bloodline can never be broken, no matter who you are or where you are. We’re one big, happy family,” Chaney said. “I was so happy. He came up to me just now, telling me all these good things, all these good things about the running backs and the team. And all he just said, we need to do even better tomorrow…Those players already filled the glass to where it needs to be. Now we’ve got to refill it again, to even higher standards.”
Added defensive lineman Elijah Roberts, “They were talking to us, giving us little pointers, telling us what’s good, what’s bad and what we need to pick up, how they used to do things. And of course, you’re going to listen. They won big games. They won championships. It’s really a good thing to have them here.”

Bonsu tomorrow announcement, and likely OSU, like Ohio said. Hykeem Williams announcing 9/23, and likely to TAMU, but still a lot of time. Would be nice to pick up the local kid, but not expecting it.
Posted by: JCane | August 13, 2022 at 06:31 PM
Yeah, ain't to many locals digging us.
Would be ashame to not end up with at least one of those 5 star WR's but at this moment in time, that probably could happen.
Posted by: HerbieIbis | August 14, 2022 at 09:51 AM
Unfortunate news for both T. Citizen and the Canes. Looks like he'll be out for a while from a "significant" knee injury. Hope he makes a full and speedy recovery. Tough break for the kid. RB isn't a position that can afford more losses given how many injuries this position racks up as the season goes on at best.

Interesting article about the respective sizes of major college footaball's (Italian spelling) fan bases (Number 1 is not Notre Dame) as well as the fanbase sizes of the college football conferences.
Read it and think about the implications for realignment

I'm not sure how much the minimum price to join the Hurricane booster group is, I just know if they offer this in 2023, they're 99% more likely to have me join it just to get my hands on a UM exclusive covered version of this magazine;

Somebody should get on that.

Marcus Clark, cb, hits the portal given a very crowded position room. Chaney is hurt again, although not initially thought to be too bad. We'll see. RB depth is rapidly becoming a concern.

Canes have lots of 23 verbal from IMG, and still hoping for at least one more on the edge. Concerning is how many 24 IMG verbal there are going elsewhere....so far. Interesting is that IMG plays a very good Baltimore team early in the season, as the Baltimore he'd qb is a 24 player the Canes have offered.
Posted by: JCane | August 20, 2022 at 01:48 PM
JC
Let’s see how this season turns out and 24’s will flock to the U and Mario!
I was watching acc network and Steele and gattis are very impressive! I like our chances this year to win at least 10 - I’d love to win 11 and beat either A&M or Clemson!
PS for 2023, close with Samson (OL), Johnson and/or Fletcher at RB, m’Pemba and/or Wilson (DE), 1 to 2 DL, a top Alpha outside receiver, 1 more CB and a top safety and we’d be good for 2023. Anybody or position we miss on, Mario will secure thru the portal!!
PSS saw some highlights of WR smith - between him, Ladsen and a young guy we will be fine on the outside and brashard smith and X in the slot, we will be fine!

I’m watching the Bills game and my guess is that Ken Dorsey will be an NFL head coach in a 2-3 years. Hopefully he’ll be a Hurricane head coach one day when he retires!
Go ‘canes!
Posted by: Sarasota 'cane | August 20, 2022 at 02:30 PM
Would love to have Ken Dorsey, back at the U. He always was one of my all time favorites. Saw him play in Syracuse NY, when he was the quarterback. Amazing arm and a joy to watch.
My Detroit Lions just won their pre season game. Maybe the only win for them!!!
Can’t wait to see the Canes. As I said, many times, I am 74 now, and am still waiting for the Canes to get rid of the cocoon, and fly like a butterfly, and sting like a bee!! I saw Mohammed Ali at the U. H spoke at the U, in the cafeteria, back in the late 60’s. Magnificent, magical, mesmerizing, masterful, and so damn handsome.❤️
My best to all of you.❤️

Had so much fun when Tom Popadak picked me up at the airport, and we went to watch the Canes play. Maybe Tom can refresh my memory, as to when, and who we played, etc.
TO DAMN MUCH FUN AND SO VERY SPECIAL TIME FOR ME.
THANK YOU TOM, FOR EVERYTHING.❤️

Some of the position groups aren't used to comp. Some of these borderline players have gotten to play because of lack of depth. Clarke wasn't bad but we do have a few more that should of been running to the door before him.
Posted by: HerbieIbis | August 20, 2022 at 07:41 PM
Agree with both of you, Herb and AC. Still wondering who on the DL side we're likely to pickup beyond Bain, and what safeties are left for this cycle. Still, I likely the trend toward depth with talent that appears yo be in motion. Hope Chaney won't be out too long from the RB side. If Fletcher doesn't flip, I love Johnson's speed, but think he'll need time to develop..learn to block at a college level, etc.
Posted by: JCane | August 20, 2022 at 11:47 PM
We need another speedy back, like Johnson.
DL and DB cruiting, aside from Bain And Brown looks a little iffy. I guess our play on the field will have to help us over the hump at those 2 positions.
Posted by: HerbieIbis | August 21, 2022 at 09:52 PM
Got plenty of star power at WR but we still have a problem with drops. If we can't find 3 reliable pass catchers at WR, we got some big issues.
