I had to check to make sure the color commentator tonight was actually UM's former lineman Orlando Franklin and not just someone with the same name, he looks nothing like his playing days with 1/3 of his mass burned off.

Old Skool

Tonight will be interesting to read. Posts in triplicate.

Old Skool

From an article in the Denver Paper

Some viewers who see Franklin, 35, on the air might not immediately recognize him. When he played in the NFL from 2011-17, he was listed at 315 pounds. And not long after he retired, Franklin said he ballooned to 350 pounds.

Well, the 6-foot-6 Franklin now weighs 235. That’s a loss of 115 pounds.

“I was going to have my second child and I wanted to make sure I was going to be around for longevity,’’ Franklin said of the period not long after his retirement. “And I wanted to do all the things that my children wanted to and not complain and be perfectly fine with running up and down and jumping on the ground.”

So how did Franklin lose all that weight? He started walking five miles a day before he began to run. He went on the Paleo diet. Three years ago, he gave up alcohol.

7-0 Canes Van Dyke rushes for a TD

Old Skool

14-0 Good Guys. Allen runs it in

Old Skool

First Quarter over Van Dyke 9 of 10 for 99 yards. Hope easy chair and hassock are ready and warmed for him

Old Skool

Van Dyke to Jacolby 20-0. Andres missed the PAT. Time for the additional playing time auditions to begin

Old Skool

Chaney runs for a TD 27-0

Old Skool

27-0 I'd bet Washingtons, we'll be seeing Washingtons in the 2nd half

Old Skool

34-0 as we go into the half. Van Dyke to Brashard Smith

Herbieibis

So nice to see WR's running open with nobody hanging on them.

Old Skool

41-0 Allen runs in again
Emory Williams 3-3 43 yards

Running back Mark Fletcher Jr., defensive linemen Akheem Mesidor and Branson Deen, safety Kamren Kinchens and defensive lineman Nyjalik Kelly did not dress for the game

orange 'n green in the vein

Still a few little wrinkles left in all three phases to iron out, road opener in a near empty pro stadium is the perfect venue to work through this team's imperfections in an old Big East series. Anyone who misses the next game though will be of actual concern going forward for the rest of the season.

I would actually sit the Guys that didn't play last night against BCU for the the Temple Game and they have the bye week to get healthy for the start of ACC Play. I believe we have a Good Team. One that can win 9 or 10 Games in Total this season. Go Canes!

Typepad was all kind of whacked out yesterday.

Working much better today.

Old Skool, good job on game updates.

Old Skool

Thanks 86. Gotta say. Orlando Franklin sounded pretty good. He added energy and excitement to the call. Didn't hear enough of him to know how insightful his comments on play-calling and strategy were, though.

Since I have no idea if this was his first tv broadcast or not I'm going to grade him on the rookie at this job scale:

He did fine. Needed a commentary save from the play by play partner with differentiating Cece from his brother Kiko but that's the toughest announcer UM related job right now anyway once you get their last name pronunciation correct. Just strange expecting to see a former Miami big ugly in the booth next to some shrimpy announcer and instead he's looking like a well fed NBA small forward, double take time for sure there.

MLALUMNI 1970

ACC play is where it’s at now. Heal the injured and then let’s go. I didn’t see how the injuries happened. The really bad thing is showing how empty the stadium was and on TV. It always has been that way and I don’t understand why. How can you go to a great school like Miami, and not show up for school games? Even rich schools, like Harvard and Yale always have packed stadiums. Can’t figure it out. At least the cameras didn’t dwell on the empty seats.
What say you??????

orange 'n green in the vein

Miami vs BCU - "reportedly" 40,077/64,992 capacity = 62% full.

Week 2; Louisville vs Murry State - 45,273/60,000 = 75%

Clemson vs Charleston Southern - 81,500/81,500 sellout for a first win of the year.

BC vs Holy Cross - 40,122/44,500 = 90%

GT vs South Carolina State 31,452/55,00 = 57%

I'd say they don't have much to apologize for in that match-up comparison, especially in a pro town.

Old Skool

A Josh Gattis team puts up 461 yards of offense in a 42 to 14 win over Virginia. End times must be near or else Virginia really sucks. It's probably the former because even if Virginia's offense lay down on the field, I doubt Gattis could have taken advantage of it.

Old Skool

Err make that "the defense lay down on the field"
Sorry. thinking of the UVA as WAP from Cardi B

That Colorado game was fun to watch, but I think they’re coming back down to earth after all the hype. They should be a solid underdog against Oregon and USC. Colorado State was bigger and more physical and they should’ve won the game, but those 10 personal fouls sealed their fate. And CSU played dirty AF. That was one of the chippiest games I’ve watched in a long time.

In Gattis’ defense he had crap O line and a ton of injuries and terrible back up QBs to deal with. I mean he was kind of in a no win situation after TVD went down, which happened when TVD just started warming up. That being said I am very happy with Dawson

Fun facts on Colorado.

- Colorado has 13 wide receivers, including 7 true freshmen. Very high for a team for both
- Colorado is carrying 8 running backs, also very high for any team
- Surprisingly, Colorado only has five true cornerbacks on their roster
- Shedeur Sanders backups at quarterback are two three star true freshmen
- Colorado beats Miami in two positions:

CORNERBACK (avg 247 HS/Transfer ranking)
CU: .9160
UM: .8967

SPECIAL TEAMS (avg 247 HS/Transfer ranking)
CU: .7967
UM: .7648

Virginia does appear to be quite shaky; they're off to an 0-3 start.

From AllHurricanes.com
Miami is one of the most penalized teams in the nation ranking in the bottom 10 of FBS teams with 23 total penalties. Miami has 209 yards in penalties, which is also in the bottom 10 of FBS teams.

For those bot following UM hoops this time of year, two 4 star players, guard and SF, have verbaled, and J. Bethea, a 5 star guard is set to announce on the 20th, between Villanova, UM and KU. Talk about a program that has morphed into 9ne of the best in the country. Coach L can now do better than win with patchwork talent.

JCane

Not, not bot. Sigh

orange 'n green in the vein

JCane, Omier still needs a rim protector front court bigger than him rotation minute sponge to keep him out of season long all game defensive assignments to defend in the low post with a height disadvantage. Cleveland at the small forward this season is going to be potentially the best transfer the program took all time, again, this year in a row, if they can either get Casey to platoon that role with another bench role player addition or find some freshman vein of gold like they did last year with AJ taking those same rotation minutes to the Final 4, now that Walker's bench role is in need of substitution this year.

Being the last survivor of that list who comments on the blob regularly now, I would say it shows the demarcation line between real Hurricane fans, and fans of winning.

Anyway, not to enjoy saying I told the blob so on this one considering the consequences of the topic, but;

https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/38432488/lane-kiffin-doubles-questioning-calls-alabama-defensive-plays

'"I was asked the question, 'What's it like going against Steele's defense?'..." Kiffin said. "We saw things on TV copy just where it was different. First off, of what the play looked like -- the calls and stuff. And so we looked into that further. And then it ain't no secret that people in these buildings know each other, so we obviously got some information that way, too."'

Hmm, amazing the former DC can't hold his water in the seat anymore it turns out, who called that before Miami let him vanilla ice cream meltdown last season again on here?

'Saban said. "He has all the defensive coordinator responsibilities. The only thing that we tried to improve from an administrative standpoint was game day administration of getting the signals in quicker, alright? So that was the only thing we worked on as a staff, and the whole staff made a contribution to it and I think it was a lot better in this game [against USF] than it was in the Texas game."'

Too old, slow and overrated to get the play call in on time and ready to defend with base defense every snap now huh? No way! I'm shocked.

Also of note;

https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/38433032/nick-saban-alabama-football-quarterback-problem

"Alabama was too late to find a top quarterback in the transfer portal. Sam Hartman had already gone to Notre Dame and Brennan Armstrong had already gone to NC State. The rest of the SEC had already cleaned up with Kentucky signing Devin Leary, . . . and Ole Miss signing Spencer Sanders, . . . All Big-12 . . . Oklahoma State, and Walker Howard, . . . five-star . . . freshman . . . LSU.

The rumor mill briefly connected Alabama and Miami's Tyler Van Dyke in April; . . . When the music stopped and the portal quit spinning, it was Buchner, who would have been Hartman's backup, that became the best option remaining."

Like two ships, passing, in the night, in the poll rankings . . .

Barstool Sports and at least one other independent news outlet reporting Fins CB allegedly has gotten 4 women pregnant at the same time.

Pick your joke:
He should play more zone because he could certainly use some separation.

In the first half of last season he suffered a groin injury. Now we know what he did for rehab.

He was recently alleged to have made secret sex tapes by a woman who bashed his Bentley with a baseball bat. In light of the new allegations, the tapes could soon be referred to as Howard family movies, the prequel.

25 year old man seeks waiver to play college football until he's 27 years old in 2025.

I actually don't have a problem with this as he's been fine in his role on the roster so far, and at least he was in college from 18-25 unlike the Australian punters that the sports information department literally tried to promote as a notable roster member Hurricanes fans were hungering to see.

Old Skool

If Cam's granted the waiver, he'll probably be honored as the player to end his career with the most degrees or college credits in UM history.

Jalil Bethea 5 star shooting guard supposed to make his selection today. Hope the Larranage mojo is strong.

JCane

Bethea announces at 3PM, I think, OS, and CBS has him crystal-balled to the Canes. One can hope. If it happens, well, I have trouble remembering the U hoops ever signing 2 4stars and 1 5 star in the same class. Fingers crossed.
