lol only God and his Family Soupster

TJL

yaaaa we got a frat boy!

MLALUMNI 1970

W, I agree. I hope that Poff can do the job. Don’t know anything about him, so I will wait for all of you, to keep me posted, informed, and current on our Canes and this new guy.🟩🟧💚🧡

CGNC

I’ve actually had to mute the dolphins game! These announcers are horrible and so pro Bills! You’d think they were in love with freaking Josh Allen

Posted by: AeroCane | January 07, 2024 at 09:18 PM

I know right?! They talk about him like he has actually won a Superbowl. It was nauseating

CGNC

86 nice update on the QB situation!

W - LOL at Poff the Magic Dragon

JCane

Thx for forwarding the info in the last blog, OC. Also, the guys who went to FSU, Jaylen Brown and Earl Little Jr, were said to have had other issues (ie Brown had issues getting along with many of the UM guys prior to UM and may not have been a great personality fit, and Little had his old HS coach and former Dolphin, Patrick Surtain, as a DB coach at FSU).

I think we benefit by having Poff at UM simply to have enough quarterbacks competing during spring play, let alone whether Emory Williams will be fully ready, as expected, to play by the fall. If Tua's bro is given the green light, I wouldn't be surprised to see that relationship move forward quickly.

On Wednesday, the U will welcome a struggling Louisville (0-3 in conference play so far) basketball team into Coral Gables. Hope they take care of business while Poplar was supposed to return to practice today. I'd like him back, as they can't blow games in the ACC to the bottom feeders, but I'd like his ankle to fully recover, if there is such a thing during any basketball season.

Herbieibis

Well, Michigan gave Mario the blueprint he has been chasing. Get bigger, nothing fancy on offense, just play smash mouth football and only throw it when u need to. We got enough QB's now that can steer the ship. Don't know how good they will be passing but hey, when you got a coach who loves for his Qb's to hand the ball off 40 times a game, they don't need to be nothing more than average, that includes our newest addition Poff.
If that is what we got for next year, welcome to anything from 6-6 to 8-4, in other words, the same thing as the last couple couple seasons.

Terrance Sullivan

Lmfao if you think Mario is in Jim or Kalan or Nick or Dabo or Kirby, or Steve, league that dude couldn’t Coach himself out of a wet paper bag

Ohio_Cane

Puff, Puff, I would've PASSED... IJS

Hope he proves me wrong

58 Straight

OC...good one there. I like it!

Terrance Sullivan

Mario Went Outlet Mall Shopping for this QB Here. Hope it pans out! JCane yeah we need to Smash Louisville. Yeah get Wooga healthy we got enough to beat a dreadful Louisville Squad and get to 12-3. Hope George continues to shine to help out Nigel, Omier, Cleveland. Need Bensley to find his offensive Game. And Casey, Naoko, defend and rebound and convert the easy bunnies they get instead of fumbling the ball out of bounds. Watson needs to find his stroke as well. Go Canes!

orange 'n green in the vein

Mary will like this;

'Miami coach Jim Larranaga indicated that Poplar and Pack are questionable, but Omier will play.

"Norchad is a different kind of a human being," Larranaga said. "If you hurt a lion, how does he respond? He gets angry and more aggressive. So, I think Norchad will be fine."'

There's no lions in Nicaragua and considering his undersized stature for his position they play him at, he's more apt to be drawn in a comparison to a jaguar or puma, but other than that I guess the story checks out?

JCane

Sounds like Coach L should compare Omier to Mongo from Blazing Saddles? For those who don't remember or who are too young, he was Alex Karras (old Lion football player, and the line was "don't shoot Mongo. It will only make him mad").

I'm guessing the Michigan game plan can be used to assist UM with recruiting though, as who can argue that this approach can't win a championship at the moment. Would anyone have guessed McCarthy would pass for only 140 yards and still win fairly easily?

Hopefully Coach L can beat Louisville at home even with a few banged up players maybe not playing, Terrance. Last year they lost a few games they shouldn't have, so you never know.

Herbieibis

Saban gone. I guess Dabo on deck.

JCane

Awful shooting, ugly 2nd half, bad loss vs da Ville

Terrance Sullivan

Absolutely Brutal Loss Tonight. The worst Loss in the last 3 Years Ugh! SMDH!

Terrance Sullivan

JCane Correct bad Loss Tonight SMH!

Ohio_Cane

Saban gone. I guess Dabo on deck.

-------------------------------------

I wish lol. Dabo would ruin Bama. It's prob gonna be Lanning

Old Skool

If it's Lanning, Bama will be cutting a check for $20 million. That's his buyout

Ohio_Cane

Welp, it's not Lanning lol

orange 'n green in the vein

Louisville did a fantastic job as a roster forcing Miami into an overall poor shooting night from the floor with their height advantage and Miami refused to get ahead and then drive to the rim to force them to foul in order to put the Hurrincanes on the free throw line where they struggled from anyway this outing, so congrats to them, they deserved to win.

Miami must rally as a team on the road to stay in the hunt for a successful league championship defense this season, so we'll see how they respond to the taste of their own blood now without their core from last year to rally them for the rest of the way Saturday.

Ohio_Cane

Arizona transfer S Isaiah Taylor has committed to Miami. He is DE coach Jason Taylor's son. I have NO clue if he's any good

Old Skool

Guess that means JT ain't going to OSU to coach

Old Skool

The coaches supposedly in play for the Red Tide job are: DeBoer, Kiffin, Norvell and Swinney. Lanning removed his name from consideration

Ohio_Cane

JT's nephew is being brought in as a preferred walk-on, so isn't taking up a scholarship

Old Skool

Canes add Elijah Alston from Marshall -- last year's defensive captain of the team and a player when Guidry coached there. 6'2" 255 pounds OLB/Rush End

86Cane

I like Kiffin for #RollTide job.

Miami should have hired him.

Old Skool

From SI

The Florida State Seminoles and the NCAA reached a negotiated resolution of an infractions case expected to include sanctions against the school, an assistant football coach and a booster, sources told Sports Illustrated. The NCAA announced the penalties later Thursday.

The case centers on violations related to name, image and likeness rules, sources said. The Florida State assistant coach and a booster were attempting to secure the transfer of a player from Georgia, according to sources, and the player chose not to attend FSU.

Herbieibis

Kiffin
Norvell
Dabo
In that order with Lanning out. Hope they take Norvell. We can't seem to beat him but he is the portal king.

Terrance Sullivan

Preach Soupster Miami should have hired Lane instead of Mario but the powers that be thought otherwise Sigh!

Ohio_Cane

Looking more and more like DeBoer from UW to replace Saban. We'll see soon

Old Skool

I'm no recruiting guru. This does seem like a significant punishment

FSU was placed on probation by the NCAA for actions stemming from violations concerning the NIL program.

The probation terms are set forth below.

Two years of probation. Probation includes further educating coaches on NCAA compliance, informing prospects in the football program in writing that the institution is on probation for two years and detail the violations committed (as well as making similar info visible to recruits on official visits or signees), publicly acknowledging the violation via a statement on the athletic department's website, and more.
A two-year show cause order for the assistant coach, including a suspension from the next three regular-season games, a two-week restriction on recruiting communication, and required attendance at a NCAA Regional Rules Seminar attendance.
A restriction from off-campus recruiting during fall 2023 for the assistant coach.
A three-year disassociation from the booster.
A one-year disassociation from the collective.
A $5,000 fine plus 1% of the football budget.
A 5% reduction in football scholarships over the two-year probationary period, amounting to a total reduction of five scholarships.
A reduction in official (paid) visits in the football program in the 2023-24 academic year by seven. The school also will not roll over six unused official visits from the 2022-23 academic year.
A reduction in football recruiting communications for a total of six weeks during the 2023-24 and 2024-25 academic years.
A reduction in the number of in-person recruiting days during the 2023-24 academic year by six evaluation days during fall 2023 and 18 during spring 2024.
These violations allegedly occurred last season. Per Yahoo Sports, a Florida State assistant coach, who was identified as offensive coordinator and offensive line coach Alex Atkins, initiated an impermissible contact between a booster and a recruit for purposes of inducing him to transfer. The player was identified by 247Sports as Georgia offensive tackle Amarius Mims.

Ohio_Cane

It is definitely significant. Couldn't have happened to a better program. ;-)

Old Skool

On Friday, Florida State head coach Mike Norvell Norvell publicly announced that he would be remaining in Tallahassee while reaffirming his commitment to the program.

Meanwhile, here's a quick blast from the past courtesy of ESPN writer Mark Kreidler of the Sacramento Bee

"Nearly every time something like this happens, a top college coach ditching his program in a crucial moment (and when isn't there a crucial moment in the college game anymore?), you find yourself inundated with what are best described as reality-qualifiers. Generally speaking, these are offered by the coach's supporters as a means of defending the kinds of actions that would get you tossed out of the local Rotary club were they put into motion in any venue other than sports.

Reality Qualifier No. 1: Sure, he told those recruits he wasn't leaving right up until the day before he left, but he had to do what was best for his family.

Reality Qualifier No. 2: Right, he wasn't entirely truthful about his intentions, but who tells the whole truth anymore in the midst of a secret negotiation? We all know how the game is played, don't we?

Like that. The coach didn't mean to hurt anyone, but it was (a) the opportunity of a lifetime, (b) a move he had to make, (c) a job he couldn't turn down, (d) stop me if you're getting queasy out there.

As you'd expect, there isn't one of these arguments that is worth a bucket of warm spit. Butch Davis said he'd be staying in Miami as recently as Sunday, while in the midst of a visit with a prized recruit. Not 10 days ago, Davis said, "I will have a new contract, and I will be the coach at Miami next year." On Monday, Davis made known his decision to jump to the Cleveland Browns.

Why bother with the qualifiers? Butch Davis lied like a Watergate co-conspirator. This guy shouldn't be able to turn a corner in a hallway; his nose ought to be getting places 10 minutes ahead of him.

You want qualifiers on Davis? I could give you a fistful. Davis, up until now, has enjoyed a reputation as the man who cleaned up Miami football in the wake of the Dennis Erickson mess. Davis went in there and took his licks, endured the NCAA post-Erickson sanctions and yet returned the Hurricanes to national prominence. He deserves every one of the accolades that have flowed his way over the past couple of years of the turnaround.

Not only that, but the Davis family is going to come out ahead financially on a scale that's dazzling even by fat-money standards. His proposed new contract at Miami -- the one that Davis kept telling university officials was all but done, yet repeatedly failed to finalize -- was to pay him upward of $1.4 million per year. Under the Al Lerner Money Machine program in Cleveland, the coach will more than double that: five years, nearly $15 million.

And all together: So what? At what point does the context outweigh the action? Here is Buck Ortega, quarterback at Miami Gulliver High School and a recruit whom Davis visited on Sunday. Interviewed by the Ft. Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel, Ortega quoted Davis as telling him this: "I took this job to be my last one. I'm going to stay until I retire."

KYcane

Has Buck graduated yet?

JCane

Looks like DeBoer has agreed to a deal to become Bama's next coach per Pete Thamel

Ohio_Cane

Look for Kliff Kingsbury to take the UW job, possibly, too

Herbieibis

That's the fastest the NCAA has ever acted. Had it been us it would be a year and half.

 JCane

Will Rogers is available in the portal again from UW after leaving MSU. Anyone need a qb?

360Cane

Bama did not mess around. They took the next hottest coach on the market, but wasn't on the market. Why can't []_[] do that? It's experimentation after experimentation. Nothing proven. Mario was never a good pick. Couldn't beat Utah, and doesn't know victory formation even though he played on O.

And we paying Mario $8M per. I'm in the wrong business.

Mario was the best, conservative pick at the time. He's also unlikely to leave Miami for another job - this is his home.

Ward bypasses nfl and commits to the U!!

Cam Ward is in. Hopefully he takes a knee.

360Cane

For those not paying attention, we had until Januray 15th. That's when you have to get an NFL agent.

Top-rated Cam Ward transferring to UM

"Baby, you can drive my car."

 JCane

As long as he hadn't signed with an agent, Ward was still an option. Huge pickup.

Nice 2nd half on the road in hoops for a needed win over the Hokies.

Terrance Sullivan

Much Needed Road Win Tonight against Those Castrated Turkeys of VT. Miami is now 12-4 and 3-2 in ACC Play. Go Canes!
