Sure, I know, it was only one game.
And yes, I know it is a long season.
But for one glorious game, the first game of the 2024 season on the road at the Swamp, and against their hated rival the Florida Gators, the Miami Hurricanes dominated from start to finish in the most impressive manner possible.
When it was over the Florida fans hung their heads in shame and disgust at the 41-17 final score. And that is just the way Miami fans like it!
In the process it was firmly established that the Hurricanes have found themselves a new stud at starting quarteback in transfer Cam Ward. He showed that he could very possibly be the best QB at Miami since Kenny Dorsey wore #11 in Coral Gables.
Ward, who wears #1, was simply magnificent as he displayed why he was the number one target in the NCAA transfer portal during the offseaon. He threw for three touchdowns and 385 yards, which is a new first game UM record. He had several timely scambles for 33 more yards to help keep the Gators defense off balance. His only misque was the the one interception on the day by tring to force the ball into a tighly covered receiver.
Ward was not the only transfer portal product to shime on this sunny day in Gainesville. New running back Adrian Martinez who transfered from Oregon State, also had a producitve day running for 65 yards on 15 carries. The Canes rushed for a combined 144 yards and averaged 7.7 yards per play in ammassing 529 total yards on the day. Miami ran 69 plays to Florida's 54 and led in time of possession 34:30 to 25:30 minutes.
Standout wide receiver Xavier Restrepo led Miami with 7 catches for 112 yards and one TD while oft injured TE Elijah Arroyo showed flashes of becoming a huge threat in the middle with his athleticism and talent. He had 4 catches for 89 yards and looked ready to take on a larger role in Miami's offense this season. Sophmore Isaiah Horton added 4 cathches for 70 yards and Jacolby George added a touchdown. But it was TE Cam McCormick, who apparently has played more years of college football (nine) than J Lo has engagement rings (6), scored the first TD of the game for the Hurricanes.
The UM defense also boasts several high profile portal transfer this season as well. The Canes lost edge rusher Ruben Bain during the first defensive series of the game but the defense showed great depth and played superbly all four quarters, holding Florida to 17 points, with seven of those coming off turnovers. The Hurricanes has eight tackles for loss, two sacks and held the Gators to 261 total yards and only 122 passing yards. Mishael Powell had an interception which he returned for 67 yards.
Special teams also played well in spite of one missed field goal. Andres Borregales was 2/3 on the day and consistently pushed his kickoffs deep into and often out of the end zone. Punter Dylan Joyce punted just twice during the game and averaged 48.5 yards per kick.
Coordinators Shannon Dawson and Lance Guidry made head coach Mario Cristobal look good with excellent play calling. They subsituted liberally throughout the game with no real difference in performance. On defense 22 players recorded a tackle and on offense 10 players caught a pass while 5 ran the ball during the game.
Time will tell but it finally appears that Cristobal now has the coaches and most importantly the talent necessary to compete for an ACC Title and compete for a spot in the newly expanded college football playoff in 2024.
So start spreading the news.
These 2024 Miami Hurricanes can play.
Seeing some old usernames, 86Cane, CGNC, OGV wow. I know I'm missing and I'm sure some have left us but glad to be with my U family.

Best part was after the game as UM players start talking to recruits hosted by FU, many wanted by both schools, and turd staffers were trying to keep them away.

The best Miami Game in the last 20 years. We are finally back.
I didn't fall for it last year, but I am all in this year.

An RT6 sighting!Glad you are back
Posted by: CGNC | September 02, 2024 at 10:01 AM
It was all just a bad dream! I woke up today thinking the Hurricanes were irrelevant for the last 20+ years! I was still confused until I turned on ESPN and saw that THE U T-bagged Florida and Chris Fowler suggested that Miami should be ranked in the top 10.
I gotta switch to decaf coffee!
Go ‘canes!

My only complaints are minor issues. I thought Cristobal should’ve yanked Ward and the starter’s about halfway through the 4th quarter to give the backups some game time experience.
I also didn’t like the fact that we had used up all our timeouts before that last drive to end the first half. Other than that I have no complaints. Fire up the bus!

Mary Lou I saw your post about watching the game next week. You can watch on YouTube TV, FUBO, HULU TV, and Sling. If you have the Disney bundle and/or ESPN+ you can also watch the game on the ESPN+ app. I’m surprised that it’s not on DirecTV Stream, which I still believe is the best streaming service for watching sports in Florida. I hope this helps.

I love it when the O-lineman says "Don't Go Here". I still laugh. One of the recruits threw up the U also
VA - very happy - we have linebackers, real deal linebackers, only 2 penalties! Also did you see after George caught that TD pass the Florida defender landed in the bushes
Posted by: CGNC | September 02, 2024 at 07:12 PM
Sota - I think we may move up to 12 or higher, depending on whether BC beats FSU. LSU was 13th and they lost to USC

Don’t you just love it when Florida State is behind? How magical if we beat both Florida and Florida State?

I was jumping around on the Guide....on ESPNU UM vs FL....I am recording it....to look at it closer get to know the kids and sets....I was so proud of them.
Remember I am a coach...again after a year off...so I analyze things and see what I like as well as what needs to be addressed....and taught again....its coaching.
I didnt want to sound critical....we were spot on nearly all the time....the pick and the TD run were the only real errors all night...2 penalties were minor.....we really dominated the game I was very proud of the Staff and team...great game to start.
Now we must put it together week at a time...game at a time focus and prepare like we did for this one. This was the most prepared team I have seen at UM since 2003 team....long time looked great!
Go BC!!!!!
Posted by: VA Cane | September 02, 2024 at 08:41 PM
FS Who took an outright ass whuppin tonight 263 yards on the ground by BC....O'brien got them playing well......gotta love it.....I hate FSU and UF.....both the same amount...love seeing them lose!!!!!!!

I see that Jimmy Johnson’s book is for sale at Margaritaville. Expensive, but I ordered a signed hard copy. Memories of the old days.
Can’t wait for Saturday. I will find it. Or I will call 86.
Go Canes. The older I get, the more I love my Canes.

Posted by: MLALUMNI 1970 | September 03, 2024 at 01:53 PM
How nice was it NOT to watch 9-12 self-inflicted stupid penalties? How nice was it to watch our Big Uglies get after it? How nice was it to see a mistake, a major mistake, be handled calmly and learned from and NOT throw the entire roster players & coaches into panic all is lost mode?
Felt like I was young again! I could get used to this…

A little disrespect will keep us angry
Posted by: KYcane | September 03, 2024 at 08:06 PM
Agreed, KY, but they're gonna have to find a way to keep the edge, and some anger, every game going forward, regardless of what success they're having, and obviously it will start getting tougher after the next two games. If they keep winning, rankings are simply gonna keep coming. They still will be viewed as inferior to programs that have been on top consistently for years, like OSU, UGa and Bama, so they'll have things to not feel the love over.
I left out GTech earlier, with 4 ACC schools being in the last 4 of the top 25. Louisville is a well-coached team that will be tough on the road.
CGNC: I saw a pic after of Justin Scott talking to DJ Pickett in that recruiting area. Pickett is said to be fully LSU right now, but just keep winning while having his family members on the team, and who knows?

Set right in the catbird seat and it's only week two, right where you want to be controlling your own destiny for playoff seeding.
The glorified scrimmage game is probably endangered, and should be extinct, to be frank, in the expanded playoff era. Yearly series with the Big 12's UCF is not only a better home game than this one Saturday, it's also a decent road destination to go visit every other year for a game day, so less band promotion, more football team promotion, going forward, Radakovich.
Louisville if they can keep this QB healthy will be a difficult test, yes, I agree with this. I'll be surprised if UM is an underdog any game this year until the post season at this juncture though.

“The glorified scrimmage game is probably endangered, and should be extinct, to be frank, in the expanded playoff era. Yearly series with the Big 12's UCF…”
Not only agree, but strength of schedule will be significant factor for non-SEC/Big10 teams going forward. In the event there’s more than 1 with a legit top 12 argument that is. ACC could be major player IF it could ever get FSU, Clemson, and our CANES on the same page & good at the same time. Add in the odd rando surprise season team and voila, ACC is making hay. But the conf schedule will never compare to the SEC/Big10 gaunlet.

Watching Gunsmoke, and thinking of my darling Richard. His evil kids are having a memorial for him and I am not invited. I am so sad, but I will go on.

Miami will do well in this new era in part because now that kids can get paid they will be living in arguably the most desirable city to live in with money as a youngster. Once you get them to visit and we show stability we will be good. A lot of college towns are incredibly boring.
It will be interesting to see what happens with UF compared to USF and UCF because Gainesville sucks.

What’s the line for the game tonight? ? I will listen to it on WQAM, if I

Well, all I can see for the Crocs
Is maybe 4 wins and FSU 7, they won't be bad all year but Florida will suck.
Every week will be a new adventure. It's hard to play at a high level every week. There will be bad Quarters, bad halves and A bad game but the good teams know how to navigate these problems.
We Finally have a QB.
Are we back who knows but we are getting closer. Mario keeps recruiting like he has we will be sniffing Bama, Georgia and OSU territory. To The Herb we need to be a little better in the QB recruiting area. Not sold on any player we have behind Ward.

Texas is trouncing Michigan, and I am happy, even though I live in Michigan for half a year. When I went to a game there, they were OBNOXIOUS. We were behind and left. But, we came back to win. My father yelled at me and said you never leave, no matter what!
I hope we win big, and make all of us proud..
