What guy? Mario, Lance or Shannon?
Every coach we've had for the last 20 years has lost to inferior teams.
I look at recruiting aside for the transition class, Mario has been good. One year it's the OH line, the next year it was the dee line, this incoming class it's Db's, what about hitting every position every year.
The OH line class he brought in last year was average at best. The dee line, so far, this year is average at best and getting a player here and there at db each class hadn't been cutting it either.
With out talent acquisition thru high school and the portal, there should no way we lose to GT or being close with the rest of these ACC schools aside from Clemson. With all that talent Mario has acquired without Came we would be 5-5.
He will have to go get another qb in the portal, get at least 3 guys on the DLine and a couple in the secondary until all those pups we are bringing can get up to speed.
I like Guidry but this dee can only not stop the pass but now add the run too. We have no pass rush, Kiko is playing like the 3 star he was and we are to slow in the secondary. Try something or someone else because what you are doing now ain't working.
This shyt show going to cost, with a once in a life time qb, at least a chance to play in the play offs.
We already had cream puff schedule, so another loss and we are finished.

Herbieibis

Well Virginia helped us out, beating Pitt.

Was it 8-9 wins is Mario's ceiling or 9-10? Championship or bust means this was a bust. Cam is kind of fun to watch but he ain't getting away with holding the ball for 10 seconds in the NFL. Either it's there or it's not within 4 seconds. Stop sandlotting.

orange 'n green in the vein

Barrow getting hurt in the first quarter helped fold the rush defense, Georgia Tech played their best game of the season to pull the upset on homecoming, they deserved it.

Wish X-man had more team success this week on the final scoreboard to enjoy while also setting program marks at his position, but, that's the way things work out in life I guess, sometime. Great player, he's done a lot to restore this program to where it should be instead of where he signed on to it.

Basketball season begins middle of November.

VA Cane

This was bound to happen, and I see things that need work, but I am a fair guy as well.

We had an easy schedule, lots of new faces, lots of transfers, young guys, and injuries. Overall with a lot of changes and a new regime 9-1 overall.....not bad for year 3. Yes others have the same challenges....but they are not 9-1.

I remember the other regimes. The only one who was competitive was Coker; right or wrong he won a NC and 80% of his games. Richt was ok to me he won 66% of his games. AlPa Onion CMD just were not right for us. So its been a long long time since LC that we were respected to a point.
We have been down from where we want to be since 2003....21 years.

Mario has a lot to work on....this season. I think if we focus we can be 11-1. If we make the playoff we will exit quickly. Honestly I do not think we are that good or deserve to be there. I'd rather go 11-1, play and win a bowl, play some kids and get ready for next class and portal to build on a 11-1 season and a bowl win. That would be much better than getting beat down by a true top team. You do not learn from beat downs, it destroys morale.

We need to focus on the fundamentals of this game. I know I preach it constantly, but thats why the 40 teams or so I have coached at all levels won. Little guys to college guys winners because they execute the real fundamentals that top teams know. At times this year, you saw poor pass blocking, poor run blocking, poor tackling poor coverage poor QB decisions drops wrong routes stupid penalties poor coaching decisions. But they did do it well at times 9-1 not bad. FSU wishes it was 9-1 not 1-9. They are quitters they quit.

So lets win 2 more get a bowl focus on fundamentals and My Alignment Assignment Execution Fundamentals program...and get better.

Forget the loss lets be ready for WF...only focus on the game with them.

CGNC

VA agree 100%. We did not seem to have the answer for the jet sweep....sigh. Also, offense struggled and it was a bad decision to go for it on 4th down in the first half and not kick the field goal as well as not kick the extra point in the second half. Had we done those two things, we would have only needed a field goal to win which may have taken some of the pressure off Cam. Oh and forgot about the TD that was called back due to a hold.

Bottom line, we did not play well enough to win

CGNC

you don't quit cry sulk or worry about playoff...you get ready to bet Wake go beat Syracuse and see what happens. Facts.

Great points CGNC,

that jet sweep kept coming yet somehow the ends corners did not set edge which gave them the outside, nor were LBs set to make the play if they cut in due to edge being set...pursuit is always from the inside...let em get outside and you are now futilely chasing.

We got bogged down on the FG drive; CW1, as fine as he is missed Arroyo wide open down the middle....on an island....it happens and the kid has been the key to success so I can't fault him one play. Even the fumble; most qbs get sacked he was chased all day at least he gives it his all.

Tight game struggling on O and D....take the points for sure...always. The TD had 2 calls...holding and ineligible downfield.

GT is not top 10 but they did a lot of basic fundamentals right! They played to their strengths and followed their game plan. Run it control the clock keep Cam and Co on sideline, get D tired, pass when need to. We had em first downs 23 to 18....but we did not string them together to move the ball which continues drives. Passing 348 to 99 UM. Run the ball 88 to 271 GT ouch!! UM 30% on 3rd, GT 65%. We 1/4 25% 4th! GT 3 sacks UM 0 GT no turnover UM 1. Time of Possession GT 35 UM 25....real ouch...10 minutes is a lot of time with a quick strike O!!!!!

Their guys tackled much better, their line whipped us up front...run block and pass....271 on ground no sacks....impressive.

They had some guys who hit like we did....they were home confident and felt like they were gonna win. I felt like everyone stood around waiting for CW1 to pull it out again....not today.

You are so right we did not play well enough to win, we acted like we were supposed to win, we did not play like we wanted to win, and we expected CW1 to pull it out at the end.
We did not deserve to win this one.

CGNC....I felt like it was an Onion, AlPa, Manny game....I saw the ghosts!!!!

Its ok we move onto WF and learn nothing is given on the field...you got to want it take it!!!
Focus on WF!!!

How sad to fall that far after just one loss. Let’s hope we win the rest of the season and onward to the playoffs.
Since some of the lymph nodes were malignant, I have to have further treatment . Life is not easy, for sure.
Hope my Detroit Lions win tonight.🩷

We deserve it Sota. We all knew we were not top 5 material. Not really top 10 I guess?

Herbieibis

When you lose to a mediocre team, you going to get dropped like an anchor.
This was just a game where everything went wrong. This defense is slow, especially on the back end. We're rushing the qb like he has poison ivy.
Cam has to start dumping the ball off when nothing is there. He had people open all day but he goes for the big play and oh line has been getting shoved around to much.

JCane

Both coordinators and WR coach Ron Dugans, our former WR coach and co OC, all were let go in Tally today. The GT game sucked, but I guess 9-1 beats 1-9.

Sarasota 'cane

Yeah I knew Miami wasn’t a Top 5 team, but I enjoyed the ride while it lasted. I don’t disagree with any of the teams they moved ahead of the Canes. Getting into the ACC title game is still in front of the team.
Onward…

Go ‘canes!

VA Cane

Agreed Sota....but the ride is not over for us. sure we lost one, but we can still go 10-1 this week, focus on Cuse and go 11-1. If we get in the playoff....might get mauled, but we take it.

If not, we go 11-1 get a good bowl focus win get on recruiting and portal so we can get better next year. Its a process.....ooooooppps did I hear the Ghost of AlPa CGNC?

I hate losing but this year has been the best in 23 years I think!!!!

Sota, its was 2 months since I was shot in leg 9.5.24......I am walking on it full weight...use walker some....but did an appraisal on a 3000 sq ft 2 story quadplex this past Thursday....it was not easy....but I never quit will never be denied!!!! It feels pretty good....38 point blank walking 2 months later at 66? Tough SOB!!!! LOL...or a hard head one of the two!!!! LOL!!!

Great analysis - U and VA Cane. I tend to agree with the “take the points” position, especially in the 1st half. I was pissed about the loss but had basically gotten over it by Sun afternoon.

Facts are we’ve been a live by the sword die by the sword team all season. We played well enough to lose to inferior teams several times and always managed a Houdini. Which is awesome until it’s not. The things that make Cam great are also vulnerabilities and our D is no where near good enough. So to be fair, I can’t blame Mario for being aggressive even though it didn’t work out vs GT. Let Cam and the O be what it is and hope like hell the D can hang on.

Heck, we’re 9-1 which beats the hell outta our normal sukk by mid-Nov! Now it’s time to bear down, focus, and win out. C’mon Mario! Let’s win the DAM conference for once!

CGNC

Hi there DTC!!

"The things that make Cam great are also vulnerabilities and our D is no where near good enough"

So much this. Do you think we play man coverage too much. Would we be better in zone?

I am going to the Wake Forest Game. Section 132 Row 18 if any of you are gping

Hey CGNC! Wanna hear something scary??…. MNF commentators just said that Calais Campbell is 38 now! Can you believe that c_ap?!? How did that kid become 38 years old? What does that make ME?? Haha
OLD…

I don’t really know if more zone would help. It’s been a frustrating watch this season. U think the dbacks play disciplined enough to handle a lot of zone? Or maybe the coaches can’t teach it or don’t believe in it? I haven’t followed the insider chatter the last several years so don’t really have enough info to have an opinion. But we’ve been consistent about giving up big plays and committing bad penalties, then playing lights out just enough to get the W. Both sides of the ball truly. If U tempt the bear enough, eventually it’ll bite your hand off.

58 Straight

DTC...U nailed it.

The sad thing is that Miami didn't lose because of major injuries, or numerous turnovers or critical penalties. They lost because the other team simply played better than them and that team was named Georgia Tech. The just got beat by a better team.

And GT was a team that lost to Syracuse by 3, to Louisville by 12, to VT by 15 and to ND by 18 points. Basically it was mostly smoke and mirrors, Miami is just not that good.

The defense is the worst I watch on TV of all of the games I watch every Saturday, and that's a lot. On offense the running game is non-existent and Cam Ward's success has been impressive but it has also been on a sandlot, improv football style. They are not outscheming anyone.

GT kept Ward in the pocket and under controlled, disciplined pressure and he had his worst game of the year. That is called STRATEGY. Miami has none. Instead Mario is the type of coach, and I have heard him quoted on this several times, that believes "If we just take care of ourselves and play our game we will win."

By taking this approach, Mario fails to identify his team's strengths or his opponents weaklnesses or take advantage of them. His only hope is to out talent the other team because he almost certainly will never out coach them.

That is who Mario is to me. Prove me wrong?

Soupster Coming Off The Top Rope! But no lies detected!

VA Cane

I do not know if Zone is easier than Man for us....both require discipline and skills that we do not have. I do not think it is taught right by UM. I was a man guy all my life HS and college as a player. I was strong very smart aggressive. I got up on them 2 hands on them...never let them get hands on me to push away...push shove grab hold...make it hard and frustrating to get off the line. Different today with 5 yard rule...so you get up on them to disable free release. After 5 you cannot beat em up. I had a guy from Villanova once...tall thin....talker smart azz Yankee. I baited him all day...hammered him held him yes I bit his hand when he got it under my mask...I racked the jewels he talked all game until then I street fought. He got so mad on an incomplete he threw the ball at me...I gave him a fake smooch and said "is that all ya got sweetheart"...me hit my mask...tossed out....2 catches 11 yards!!!!

Zone you got to stay in your area and identify who comes in to your area alertness is critical...you have to be able to work with your fellow DBs and not break off guys or out of the zone....we are young have had some injuries do not tackle well or cover consistently or well in either mode...no excuses others have the same problems.

Pass was inconsistent. We never put together consistent drives just flashes...and we could not run the damn ball. Our pass and run block was non existent. They ran it down our throats, played solid D and never let drives continue. They blocked and tackled, made plays to stop drives, followed their game plan to a T. We were inconsistent on offense and no run game. The D was just not there all day. Cannot fault ST.

We move on to WF....I never believe any game is easy. We have not played good teams...Ville GT VT...could have lost to all 3. However we focus on WF get the win work on fundamentals and mistakes and learn. After WF we take on the next one.

We are not Top 12...maybe Top 20...maybe. Still as others say 9-1 in mid November is a nice improvement!

MLALUMNI 1970

Where do we go from here? Only one loss, but it feels like we lost all the games. Am I the only one who feels like this ???

Can’t prove U wrong. Don’t disagree.

But being the eternal optimist that I am…. I’ll give reason for hope…

The U controls their own destiny still. Sukks to lose - the way we did, to an unranked team. BUT win out is very doable. Winning the conf champ is very doable - not easy perhaps but doable. Make the Playoff and see what happens!

It’s a weird season. Vandy beat Bama and took TX to the wire. CANES have a tendency dating back decades of playing down to the level of their opponents. Maybe this group elevates their game when it matters most?!? Even losing in the Playoff should bring The Legion some level of satisfaction since that would be the best we’ve been since like 2005. And the CANES are State Champs!

U gotta be able to play both to be a top D these days.

If we are focused and pissed the rest of the way and bulldoze Wake & ‘Cuse, I’ll be pleased and optimistic. Fingers crossed!

Dallas—-FINGERS CROSSED! Are all of you nervous as much as I am???
What do you think about Mario? I’m not really impressed. Not for $8 million dollars a year!! All schools are gunning to beat the Canes. I wonder what the past greats have to say.
Nice to see Michael Irvin at every game.🧡💚

Herbieibis

To The Herb, you need at least to 4 difference makers on defense and at least one at each level to be a championship contender. Right now the way we are playing we have one and that's OJ.
We got to many players playing average football. There is no excuse for giving up the amount of chunk plays that we have given up.
No excuse to not get to the Qb. It's not like we are playing against all world linemen.
The tackling, just sucks plus the taking of bad angles.

Herbieibis

Should have said 3 to 4 difference makers.
