The University of Miami men’s basketball team fell to the Oklahoma State Cowboys (4-1), 80-74, Friday afternoon at TD Arena in the Hurricanes’ (3-2) second game of the 2024 Shriners Children’s Charleston Classic.
Down 17 with five minutes to play in the game, the Hurricanes connected on seven of their final 10 shots to pull to within six of the Cowboys, but time ultimately ran out on Miami’s comeback.
Guard Nijel Pack recorded his second 20-point game of the season, totaling 20 points to lead the Hurricanes in scoring.
Forward Brandon Johnson tallied his first double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds, pacing the Hurricanes’ on the glass.
Oklahoma State took control early, opening the game on a 9-0 run. Miami cut the lead to three thanks to a pair of 3-pointers from Blackmon and Pack, but the Cowboys responded with a 7-0 run to extend their lead to double-digits, 20-10, with 10 minutes to play in the first half.
The Cowboys shot 53.3 percent from 3-point range in the first half to increase their lead to 16, 43-37, at the halftime break.
Oklahoma State took its largest lead of the game, 51-31, at the 14:35 mark in the second half, but Miami responded with an 11-4 run to cut the deficit to 13 at the midway point of the frame.
The Hurricanes shot 58.1 percent from the field in the second half and four Miami players scored eight-plus points in the final 20 minutes of play but they could not finish the comeback.
Miami will play either VCU or Nevada at 12:30 p.m. ET on Sunday at TD Arena in Charleston, S.C.
Go Canes!

48-24. Chunk plays are still a problem but we have Cam. Enough said.
Posted by: Herbieibis | November 23, 2024 at 12:44 AM
Didn't shoot well from three, tough to win doing that and not playing good team defense consistently. VCU is a little better roster assignment distribution for UM than Oklahoma State, but the team needs someone who can give them rim protection when they give up drives to the lane because they're over-committing to challenges of shots there and not boxing out enough to prevent offensive glass second chance looks.
Not impossible to fix the problems they're showing now but it will take time for new players to develop rapport with each other's strengths and weaknesses which right now, they're really not doing well at due to unfamiliarity in the rotation this early I have to assume.

The first four games we were sky high....everybody saying U is back! Then we hit the middle period with some exciting finishes...VT Cal The Ville.....then we embarrassed FSU...Duke slugglishly got by....GT.....free fall.....so we need to get back to a fundamentally sound outing with some nice plays.
Damn line up block people and run it. Open up pass with play action, then protect and let Cam hit some big play that are set up...I don't need no miracles or magic just bat your guy.
D penetrate on run, pressure on pass, stay in lanes, set edge when needed,LBs be aware read..back 7 know coverage assignment and everyone must tackle!
Focus today on doing things right quick crisp all game...here and now just today!

Go Canes! Win big time today! High noon.🟧🟩🧡💚

Gameday!
Go ‘canes!
Posted by: Sarasota 'cane | November 23, 2024 at 11:43 AM
Well, the D rears its ugly head again! You had a whole two weeks to get the D ready!! What the hell were you doing? C’mon man, this is getting ridiculous.
Posted by: YooperCane | November 23, 2024 at 12:23 PM
Just like I wrote above, chunk plays are still a problem. So much for using the bye to tighten things up. Third and 12 run it fir a first and then the dumb asses in the secondary blew something. We can't be this bad on dee but we are.
Posted by: Herbieibis | November 23, 2024 at 12:24 PM
Got nothing against our bigger backs but they have no vision. Some these runs should be going for bigger gains, if they would cut back.
What's that 9 tds called back this year.
Posted by: Herbieibis | November 23, 2024 at 12:37 PM
OK so we run it.....like I asked...and Herbie you are right on that run...cur right it's a TD....and Cam trying to pull that rabbit out of his AZZ...should have ru o that play...it was open early and easy if he hustles ot shuffles...then he throws it into end zone....damn near a pick!!!!
Well I should have just shut up instead of saying back 7 know your assignments and tackle....can you say missed coverage?....no tackling!
We aint tackling anybody....and Sota....there's our boy George #3 pretty obvious pick play....yep he is good for 1 foolish penalty a game!!!
Posted by: VA Cane | November 23, 2024 at 12:44 PM
Damn, either this Wake O is good or as I suspect, our D is mediocre at best
Posted by: YooperCane | November 23, 2024 at 12:47 PM
Damn it! C’mon Canes! Wake the fuck up!
Posted by: YooperCane | November 23, 2024 at 12:58 PM
At least we are ahead. Hang on to your britches.🟧🟩
Oh piss, they just scored on us.
Do you think that Mario is the problem ??
Posted by: MLALUMNI 1970 | November 23, 2024 at 12:58 PM
Well coughing up another KR is the only way Cam was going to touch the ball in the second QT.
Posted by: Herbieibis | November 23, 2024 at 01:00 PM
I must be superstitious , but I wish they would wear orange. In the old days, they won wearing orange but would lose wearing green. Never liked the green, only orange .
Posted by: MLALUMNI 1970 | November 23, 2024 at 01:05 PM
Coverage poor missed assignments confusio......tackling poor...Sota George # 3 gets another convenient penalty....Cam needs not do magic...end zone pass was too close to a pick...we NEED to play basic fundmental football...we do not do it
Nice pick 6 play......then you give up 100 yard TD on KO.....sloppy sloppy careless football...
Claiborne #1 tough back is a beast for sure....he played about 40 minutes from me he's from Aylett VA.....King William County he led them to State Title in 2021....hes about 5'10" 200 lbs....not only a great back he won state 100M finished 2nd 200M he was awesome that year ....and a good kid.
Hate to say it...OL and CW1 going to have to win it...
Posted by: VA Cane | November 23, 2024 at 01:06 PM
They got the same game plan as GT...basic football run it they seems they can pass better...smart D...assignment ball....
sure enough they stay home Cam lucked out on that first rabbit out of the hat magic in the end zone....not this time...not wise to do that!
Posted by: VA Cane | November 23, 2024 at 01:09 PM
VA and bad angles. Can we not get anyone open down field.
Posted by: Herbieibis | November 23, 2024 at 01:11 PM
Mario and Dawson are average coaches at best; Guidry and the ST are just bad! And it’s been this way - it didn’t just start!
I think we are what we are with Mario at HC. I bet UF beats us if we had to play them again!
Posted by: AeroCane | November 23, 2024 at 01:16 PM
Hurry up put a speed back in. Martinez is a led sled.
Posted by: Herbieibis | November 23, 2024 at 01:23 PM

Dawson is SO boring!
Posted by: AeroCane | November 23, 2024 at 01:57 PM
Holy smokes ! What the hell is going on?? What do you think? I am sick at how they are playing.
Posted by: MLALUMNI 1970 | November 23, 2024 at 02:11 PM
Do we have anyone who can get to the dam qb. Effing 4th and 7 and he has like 5 seconds before he took off.
Posted by: Herbieibis | November 23, 2024 at 02:13 PM
Must of known I was pissed.
Posted by: Herbieibis | November 23, 2024 at 02:14 PM
Man, here we go with the sleepy D! When will the D come to life? We need it now! Go canes!
Posted by: YooperCane | November 23, 2024 at 02:22 PM
I am pissed too. Embarrassing to watch, and on national television.
Posted by: MLALUMNI 1970 | November 23, 2024 at 02:23 PM
Taken one shot down field thru 3 quarters. Get that dancing Martinez out and while I'm at it, does every run have to be up the middle, I mean you can run off tackle or a sweep.
Posted by: Herbieibis | November 23, 2024 at 02:24 PM
We need this stop! We can’t afford to lose this damn game! Please Lord! Dial up some good D plays to put this game away! If we don’t, we are fucked!
Posted by: YooperCane | November 23, 2024 at 02:27 PM
They must of spent the last 2 weeks working with just defense, while Cam was out shopping for some bling for the offensive line.
Posted by: Herbieibis | November 23, 2024 at 02:38 PM
Herb, that is absolutely funny! You know it must be true! The D must feel left out on getting some bling! Let’s go canes! Get the W baby!
Posted by: YooperCane | November 23, 2024 at 02:43 PM
That's what I'm talking about speed in the backfield no dancing, just hit the hole and go.

Defense played pretty well coming off the bye and the straight up loss. Special teams still is a big x-factor week to week right now, but a good November win overall to deny Wake a bowl as the Friday South Beach nightlife flu came through in the clutch for senior day.
Syracuse is a solid team and it's their Super Bowl to close the regular season as they try to spoil the Hurricane's shot at the playoffs. Will need to play a great regular season closer next week! On, to New York!
Posted by: orange 'n green in the vein | November 23, 2024 at 04:28 PM
Well, next week the airways will be filled with footballs. If we can play next week the way we played the second half, we'll be seeing SMU but that's a big if.

Go Canes! Beat Syracuse!

""(Defensive intensity) is a major concern for us," Miami head coach Jim Larranaga said Tuesday."
This is not acceptable. Each player in the rotation must accept accountability, challenging themselves, while they play better on ball and help man to man defense if they want to not completely suck this season. Most of the personal fouls they take must come from teammates stepping up and in to attempt to take charges from out of control opponents trying to drive lanes or from hard fouls on layup attempts playing the shot defending their paint. It won't fix everything, but, it will fix the biggest thing they're not good at as a team, if they do.

Miami moved up to the 8 slot in the AP Poll and they moved up to 7 in the Coaches Poll.
Go ‘canes!

My Richard and I drove to Syracuse to see the Canes play , when Ken Dorsey was the quarterback. Amazing game and we won. But we hit a horrendous blizzard on the way home. I was so scared, because I was driving over huge bridges. Cured my fear, stayed in the middle lane and had tears. But, my Richard said that was the greatest throw he ever saw.
Happy Turkey day to all.
40 years of love and devotion and I will love him forever.
Tomorrow I go to the cancer doctor to see what treatment is available for me.
I need Hurricane Prayers from all of my Canespacers.💚🧡
Tom took me to my first game at Hard Rock. I must ask him who we played.🟧🟩🧡💚
