After a disappointing performance at Georgia Tech earlier this month, the Hurricanes had to wait two weeks to get back on the field and try to put that loss to the Yellow Jackets behind them.
Miami scored 22 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to pull away from an upset-minded Wake Forest team and secure its first 10-win season since 2017.
On their opening possession, the Hurricanes looked every bit the potent, high-powered offense they’ve been all year. Miami marched down the field and took a quick lead when Cam Ward connected on a 13-yard scoring pass with Jacolby George to cap a 13-play, 84-yard scoring drive that took more than six minutes off the clock.
Wake Forest, though, answered immediately.
The Demon Deacons (4-7, 2-5 ACC) needed just seven plays to tie the game with Hank Bachmeier completing a deep, 36-yard scoring pass to Micah Mays, Jr.
It was the only touchdown the Deacs’ offense would score all day.
Wake Forest’s only other touchdown came in the second quarter, moments after Meesh Powell gave Miami a 17-7 lead on a 76-yard interception return. Demond Claiborne took the ensuing kickoff, scored on a 100-yard return and pulled Wake Forest within three.
Just before the half, the Hurricanes extended their lead when kicker Andy Borregales connected on his second field goal of the half, a 25-yarder that sent Miami to the locker room with a 20-14 lead.
Then, after a scoreless third quarter, an offensive onslaught for the Hurricanes (10-1, 6-1).
After Miami’s defense stopped Wake Forest on a 4th-and-2, the Hurricanes took advantage of the short field, needing just five plays to get in the end zone on a 1-yard rush from Ward.
The Demon Deacons fumbled the ensuing kickoff, it was recovered by Miami and once again, the Hurricanes capitalized, pushing their lead to 35-14 after Jordan Lyle scored on an 18-yard run with 6:24 left.
The Hurricanes would add another touchdown on their next possession when Ward, once again, connected with George, this time on a 15-yard scoring play.
Ward finished the day competing 27 of 38 passes for 280 yards with two touchdowns. He’d also, in the process, break two Miami single-season records, both set by Bernie Kosar in 1984. On Saturday, Ward passed the legendary Miami quarterback in both completions (263) and passing yards (3,774).
The story of the game was the defense without a doubt. After that first series and the busted coverage, that’s what Miami Hurricane defense should look like,” Hurricanes head coach Mario Cristobal said. “Offensively, we had our struggles. We caused a lot of it ourselves with penalties, miscues, dropped balls and some turnovers. But the defense we leaned on them, and they came through in a big-time way even when they were on short fields. I hadn’t seen a defensive performance like that anywhere in a long time. That was really awesome, and they certainly deserve all the credit and all the mention of the game.
Oh yeah!
Go ‘canes!

Canes 10.5 favorites....I don't know I would bet that. Passing about the same, rushing we have a big edge. We have scored more points than them, and given up less points than them. Our defense has been a sieve all season....hmmmmm...I uspect it will be a shoot out up there.....it will be cold in NY....but the dome is about 70+ so that is no excuse!
This is certainly a must win game...for sure. Win we play SMU...lose....hmmmmmmm....we need the D to step up this one!
Happy Thnksgiving to all of you!!!!!! I am cooking dinner for me and the wife...she is a retail mgr so late tonight early Friday.....me....just a damn RE appraiser work when I want to or need $....LOL!!!

I am NOT betting that spread for Miami. I don't trust them enough, and they haven't given me enough reason to trust that kinda number in a crucial away game.
I don't care if it's indoors. I don't care if their defense stinks. I don't care who they've played and struggled against. Everyone plays their best game against us and QB's turn into Mahomes.

I’m with you Ohio! You can’t trust Mario and this coaching staff until they prove it and they haven’t yet. And it seems most have forgotten that we looked like crap for 3 quarters against a bad wake forest team! Prove it Canes and win at LEAST 3 more games!!

I agree. Canes win by 3.

The Canes always figure out a way to blow a game, like with GT. I hope that we get the W on Saturday. I hope that that the D shows up, he’ll, I hope that both the D and the O show up!

Hope all had a great Thanksgiving and have lots to be thankful for. Now, let's see the U do something to add to the holiday week. SMU would be tough, but I can worry about that after, assuming the U can actually take advantage of having more talent than SU. On D, keep it basic. Stay in the lanes, fill the gaps, keep blitzes to a minimum, etc. Kyle McCord gets rid of it fast, so blitzing will likely just create more uncontested passes. They're likely won't be much going through progressions by McCord, so be ready fast. Take advantage of the SU D, make sure to run, including using your speed, getting to the outside occasionally, and, ahem, using Jordan Lyle. Win the frickin game, help with with signing day coming up the following week, and get to the damn ACC championship game.
As for signing, hate that FU has started playing better and using the $ they'd have needed to buy out Napier for NIL instead. They're grabbing FSU former verbals, making it highly unlikely players like Hanks will flip to us, etc. Hoping that with all of the LSU verbals flipping that DJP will do the same. I think out best shots for big flips are Alford and hopefully DJP. We'll see. I'd like Kellen Wiley, too, to complete a great LB class, too. Alford would also be an OSU flip for the 3rd straight yr, but not counting my chickens. Also, would really love to see one of the great WRs, between Ffrench, Brown, Wilson, etc to come our way, and MC definitely will keep at it, but looking less than 50/50 to get 1 of them.
Now, just win, baby (ode to Al Davis, in honor of VaCane)

Thank you JCane AD is probably spinning The Raiders are so bad....I mean bad...
You guys are all right. We must put together a solid game vs Cuse....it may end up a shootout....I'd rather not see that, rather see a strong defensive game with QB pressures, good coverage and good tackling....but whats the chance of that happening? On O....run the ball and play action passes....use the middle of the field with TEs....then look for big plays...line must run and pass block better!!!! I may kill the TV if I see one more flanker screen.....does not work....it reminds me of the horrible past!
We just need to play solid fundamental football....all of us know what that is....we are not stupid!!!!!!! Why do the coaches not know it? Why do they not teach it? Why do they not correct it? I do not know!!!!
Assignment Alignment Execution Fundamentals....simple formula works!!!
I hope you all had great Thanksgivings...I cooked for me and the wife...turned out good...she's working (manager Marshalls) me football football football ....a few cold ones....great Tgiving food and other goodies shrimp sausage and steak on the weekend menu!

Glad you enjoyed your Thanksgiving, Canespacers. Freezing cold up here in Michigan. Can’t wait to watch the Canes tomorrow. Have to win.
or it’s all over.
Going to Florida on November 11th. Have to find an oncologist down there, for my colon cancer. Looks like I will need chemotherapy. UGH!!
Onward and upward.🩷 At least I have a house in Florida.
Love my Canes and my Detroit Lions.

Limit the dancing bears carries. Use the speed and power equally.
No stupid penalties.
Ward, take what the dee gives u and take shots when they present themselves.
Get pressure up in McCord's face.
No chunk plays, especially in the run game.
Keep everything in front and tackle.
Sounds easy but we never do it the easy way.
This could be 98 when we played UCLA, score wise.
45- 34.

Anybody else hoping GT keeps taking it to UGa, a team that happens to be in the SEC championship game?
Posted by: JCane | November 29, 2024 at 09:02 PM
I am JC....they are a good team. They are well coached and play fundamental assignment football....smart kids.
GA is a good team as well....I am not a Kirby fan. He's a good coach, a bit over the top for me.
Interesting game to watch...will GT come out 2nd half still be stoked? or will GA maul em...one never knows.
I got a feeling UM Cuse may be more of a high scorer....nobody playing D...hope not but if so...we got some athletes who will have to show up!
