We Even Begged U

I absolutely compromised my pride to beg Mario to win this game. 

I totally thought he might actually have it in him to make it happen. 

But he didn't and he never will. That much is completely crystal clear.

And the UM defense is simply as bad as it can get. Or maybe worse.

In the old days, Miami would go up by 21 points and the defense would come on the field and we would scream "Let the BIG dog eat!"

And then they would start with a tackle for loss, then a sack and then an INT. Now we go hide in the closet with Donald Duck hoping not to see what we knew would happen.

The other team waltzing down the field like our defenders are on roller skates. It is sickening and dispicable and nauseating. We are supremely embarrassed by our skinny, light weighted and light hearted high school boys playing against what appears to be be grown men.

But this is the team Mario built. 

And to put it directly, it sucks.

It wouldn't of mattered had we tried for a TD, instead of kicking a FG, we couldn't stop them.
The defense has been pretty bad all year but at least we made a few adjustments to stop the bleeding, except the 2 games we lost.
One, no way George would of went back in that game but back in he went. This wasn't an isolated incident but has happened several times the last 2 years.
Two, where were the Defensive adjustments? CB's on an island and got smoked time after time.
3. WE wasted a qb that we may never have again. 10-2 is a big jump from where we were but for all Mario's great recruiting he has fallen short in the db backfield. Nice that as of right now we have help on the way this recruiting cycle but where was it before. He first addressed the OH line then last year was the dee line but why not attack all positions equally. This class coming in he addresses the DBs.
I knew McCord could light us up and even mention the over would be around 70 earlier in the week but Guidry fell flat. No team can score every time they have the ball but it seemed like we could and with this defense it felt like we need too. The powers that be may feel kind and put us in the play offs, if only because of Cam Ward. Like GTech years ago, Pitt a few years back and now when we only needed to win the last game we choked every time. We joked when we said the ACC meant the All Canes Conference and yet here we are 20 years later and we still have no ACC Championship. Most years we had more talent than any team in the conference except Clemson and that was half the time and we still manage to lose to teams that shouldn't be on the field with us. The game has changed and now you can be beaten no matter how much of a talent gap you have.
This was an epic fail.

When a coach leaves a program for greener pastures, the program they left usually does worse. #1 Oregon is not that program. Less than Super Mario is over his head. He's not smart enough to be CEO of []_[] football. I've seen enough. Usually you learn from your mistakes. Mario didn't kneel the ball at Oregon either, AND doing that FG when our efense would lose in a pillow fight instead of trying for 6 is another dumb move. I can't keep doing dumb and clueless. It hurts, and Mario looked lost again. []_[]

Amd the excuses that continually get made for the last two decades must stop. Either you have it or you don't. Period. Texas first year in the extremely powerful and heavily favored SEC, and they're head8ng for a title. We're in the sorry ACC, and still have no title with a couple blown out appearances. Can't spell suck without the []_[]. My apologies as I'm not optimistic or pessimistic. It's called reality and logic.

Coach or players, I don’t know. But, 8 million a year, is rediculous.

Thank you, everyone, for your support and prayers. I will keep you posted on my journey. Graduated in 1970 from the U, when they were lousy.. But, love my Canes, always.

I kind of expected it; I have watched Cuse and SMU games and both their O's gonna score against this D. Just fact. Of course we can score too, but if your D does not makes stops and big plays at some point you lose the shootout and we did.

Cuse D was not great, but they did make some plays. The Restrepo fumble really hurt, but I cannot knock a guy for 1 play...yes he fumbled last week too, but he has made a lot of plays.

CW1 did not play bad either, you score 38 you can expect to win provided your D can get stops at some point. The D is not coached....fundamental tackling, reading and taking correct angles, lane discipline, setting the edge, using the hands, coverage techniques, knowing your assignment....it is not being coached. If you are going to play man, you cannot let a guy get a free run off the line. You whip his ass for 5...then cover.

I like Mario, but I do not see him as the fit. He is a bit too mellow for me he does not get on azz. To me the whole program is a bit loose for my taste. The celebrating takes your mind off the game...you celebrate wins after you win the game, not 1 play. Maybe its me but thats how my program works. The stupid penalties like 3? George would never have gotten another Unsportsmanlike after the first one...when in Sept? You make that clear day 1 of practice, and the first 1 your azz sits the rest of the game. Even get close to a 2nd....you are done off the team. You got to make them men....they come to you as boys!

There are no excuses GT and Cuse both double digit dogs...but showed up to play anyway. Up 21 is a big lead to build on...couple stops, couple more scores its on. They did not quit and their coach got a pulse on that program. He got mad a couple times....thats good.

Miami dropped to 14 in the Coaches Poll, but if you look at the team’s right below Miami you’ll see several that would blow the Hurricanes out of the water. If you said Miami would be 10-2 at the beginning of the season I would’ve said that sounds good, but in reality the Hurricanes could easily be 8-4 or even 7-5 if it wasn’t for a few calls and/or lucky bounces.
This loss stings, and on the heels of the Dolphins collapse is starting to wear me out.

I don't know.....I do know Jesus quite well.....he plays a mean free safety......but what do we do about the other 10 positions? LOl!!!!

Honestly I do not see a playoff birth. We have gotten by with a lot of luck, some timely calls, a weak schedule, and a porous D. Over the last 6 games I think that is reality; it has been proven as fact! As long as a team keeps winning no matter how you will get the votes to stay in contention. at 9-0, 9-1, 10-1 you get the votes. As the time approaches to get serious about the 12 teams...ie this weekend....the situation becomes obvious. We are not Top 12....probably Top 25 but we are not playoff worthy.

The kids have played hard, and the season has been fun, but we have a long way to go. Who is going to QB next year? I did not realize CW1 is 6'2" 225.....I thought he was Kyler Murray size. If I am him....do I even play in a bowl? We will really miss him shame he has no more eligibility.

I do not want to crush these kids...they played hard....but not good. You have to coach these kids daily off season they got to put in work....The D needs help badly.

The only way we maybe get in is SMU taking care of business and even that is a gigantic maybe, especially with Bama in front of us.
Penalties killed us. 60 yd. Run called back.
George's B.S. penalty went from being 2nd and goal from the 8, to second and goal from the 23.
Culture sucks. We were one of the worst penalized teams in the country. We had what, 7 or 8 tds called back.
The thing that pissed me off was they put George right back in the game.
Horton and Brown were virtually no shows and Hortan drops a slant that mayb goes for 6.
Ultimately Guidry gets the Bayou verbal beat down fir how ill prepared this defense has been, practically all season. The chunk plays over and over, bad angles, poor tackling and no one sets the edge.

Merritt going to UTenn would be less of a surprise, as that's been rumored for a long time. Hoping these things don't go south, but...As for Nix, could be less of a concern if we get Alford flipping to us, and maybe Wiley coming our way, as the LB position would be fine. Stubbs could really hurt, especially if to Gainesville, and if also brings his classmate, Ffrench, there.

That being said, anyone feeling less stress without having to worry how our D would be able to contain SMU? Sigh....

We could not contain SMU or Clemson....it's just not there this year.

EZ schedule early first 4 were easy... FL, FLAM, Ball State SFL....shootouts with VT, Cal, Ville....all could have been losses....VT and Cal we got lucky....Ville couple calls and we lose. FSU bad team, Duke 9-3 lost SMU by 1 in OT!!! GT we are bad, WF we pull away, Cuse we are bad.

7-5 is more of a reality as to what we really are as a team. Not putting anybody down, but these are facts. Cuse is 25th....and they beat us. Been a good year if you glance at season and record, but reality sets in, you study what I said above
and you see an average team overall. Very good QB...good receivers and backs, avewrage OL. ST are not an issue. Defense is not up to par at all 3 levels and has regressed as the season goes on.

Coaching seems to be the main problem, and perhaps some attitudes need to be addressed.

Good and accurate post VA! I obviously think Guidry is a bad DC with a low football IQ (listen to his interviews) and I like Dawson but he truly lacks imagination (or Mario stifles him). I mean one of the best runs of the day was Martinez going to the edge and I think the entire season I only saw that once with him. I don’t mention Mario because he’s going nowhere but I think we all feel the same about him. Good recruiter but no more than an average HC.

Stubbs is gone to Flo. If they get Hanks, they will set. A-1 safety and An A-1 cb. I don't see us with no A-1s. This is what happens when blow games down the stretch.
They got to go portal hunting again for a QB. What we have on the roster is okay but that is it. William's is a lite above average and a bubble screen waiting to happen. Would really have to temper the offense next year but hey the defense should be better, right? No where to go but up and that's if we don't get strapped by the portal.

I don't see any major coaching changes until after the last game is played, Aero, or at least until after there's confirmation that UM won't be in the playoffs (still a maybe, but unlikely). I do expect some changes, at least on the D side though. How can there not be?

Remember Mario, tells them in private they need to look for another job and helps them do that.
From what I heard, aside from Merritt, Stubbs and Nix, it don't look good for Pickett, Wiley, Carter or Alford. I guess it's better for recruiting if we go 7-6. You notice all of them are Defensive players an area that we need a herculian upgrade at.
Unless there are some surprises what we have verballed is what we got. I ain't enthused at what we have coming in on the DL or really at LB, if Nix goes. The secondary looks okay but if true not getting Pickett or Hanks will suck.
Missed out on all of the top WR's in Florida except one. Allot of projects on the OH line except one.
We will need a portal qb and he needs to get on it early. We lost Smith last year because Came waited late to announce.
The two I like are Bailey and Mateer. Bailey is young has 3 years left and is from Florida. Matter is from Cam's old home WSU.
Sort of a gun slinger, who will run as well. Probably years before you see another Ward.
Got some good young talent on the dee line but probably another year before consistently helpful. Going g to have to hit the portal for 2 or 3 and what ever you do Mario get bigger DT's. Keep Bain at DE.

Dallas Wilson stuck with Oregon, Ben Hanks stuck with FU, and Alford I think announces in a couple of hrs. I can't remember when DJP announces. I'll likely simply check at the end of the workday at this point.

The soap operas of the day were Malachi Toney choosing to not sign right away today, but ultimately doing so, and Timothy Merritt, who had been rumored to be flipping to Tenn for weeks now. Although Merritt was out of the class yesterday, it appears he was trying to leverage Tenn and UM against each other, and UM simply had enough and dropped him. The soap opera is that he apparently cursed UM at his press conference today. Kids will be kids in this NIL era, but...buh-bye!

While I agree that the Canes didn't look like a playoff team these last 3 games, there is no way that Bama looked any better than UM did in their last 3 games, and quite possibly worse, with a blowout loss to OU (only made bowl-eligible by that win over Bama), and beating Mercer U along with a sub 500 Auburn team. How does that truly make a 3 loss SEC team leapfrog a team that lost 2 of the last 3 by a small amt and against solid teams on the road? Frankly, I don't think either one belongs there, but there completely is an SEC/Bama brand bias. I could have lived with SCarolina over Bama. Guess it will all be moot if Clemson beats SMU.

I think we signed a pretty good class, and am looking forward to seeing some of the '24 class that didn't play all that much this past year get some action (DTs, WRs, etc.). Guessing we'll be pretty busy in the portal now, as well.

Okay. Bets on when D coaching changes happen now that we know we're not gonna be in the playoffs?

Somebody better be looking for a QB similar to CM1.....he was the best since KD11....and KD11 had far more talent to work with, and an OL to block. Put Ward with that team....50 TDs or better. I mentioned a bunch of old QBs....never want one like that again....statue in the pocket. Just will not work now... CW1 is the style and blueprint for the future...which is 2025 people!!!

I do not know...after all the bad D this year, I do not know if I want to be embarrassed by BYU....I might just pack it in call it a 10-2 year start working on 2025 a QB an OL and a new DC and some defenders. Just a thought!

The problem, VA, is I think more guys are likely to opt out of a bowl game for UM than BYU, which would likely hurt our O more than our D, although I'd love to see Emory in action if Ward is out, as I'd expect. Nothing to lose by letting young guys play on D truly.

Question to me is, although it feels like UM doesn't deserve a playoff bid given the last few games, it also doesn't seem like Bama does either, and there is even chatter that SMU could drop behind Bama with a loss in the ACC championship game, which says exactly what the 12 team playoff is. Let's just say big SEC brands always deserve, cause losses to Vandy and OU are good losses since they're SEC teams, and Mizzou counts as a ranked team in spite of losing big several times and barely beating BC. System is rigged where the big money is.

What QB out there is Ward? Nobody. Matter sounds solid, but I'd expect him to follow his OC to OU. Miller Moss is a pocket passer. We shall see who becomes available.

Like I said earlier, not enthused with the DL haul. Lowe will be good but we need to be better and bigger at DT. I don't see no immediate help up front with this class. Not a bad class by any means but not to many immediate depth pieces.
Portal here we come and this time get some size and speed on Dee.
